Bobbi Kristina Brown Found Unconscious in Bathtub, Recovering: Report

Bobbi Kristina Brown is now recovering after reportedly being found unconscious in her home bathtub, TMZ reports. The daughter of the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown was first found by her husband Nick Gordon and a friend.

PHOTOS: Celebrity health scares

Police in Roswell, Ga., tell TMZ that Gordon used CPR on Brown, 21, before police and paramedics arrived. She was taken to a hospital and is now breathing and stabilized. No further details were given.

PHOTOS: Whitney's life

The incident is quite unsettling, as Brown's famous mom, after years of drug abuse, was found dead in her bathtub at the Beverly Hills Hotel back in February 2012. Houston passed away at 48, and according to the L.A. Times, there were "no signs of foul play."

The Only "Low-Life Scum" in the McCain Hearing Was Henry Kissinger

"Arrest Henry Kissinger for war crimes!"

The strained, sing-songy chant that sent Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) into a twitching fit of rage Thursday afternoon had died out by the time security escorted one last graying activist from the hearing room. For McCain, though, the quarrel never ends.

This was no ordinary disruption, and the man seated before the panel, former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, was no ordinary guest. All of which goes to explain McCain's jarring choice of words when he finally, and now infamously, called the departing disruptors "low-life scum."

Source:YouTube

May we use a junkyard simile? (We think we can). If McCain was the pitbull in this setting, then Kissinger was the decaying clapboard chop shop he was intent on defending. The intruders, in their defiance, were mauled for having attempted to carry out a "citizen's arrest" of the 91-year-old Nobel Prize winner for atrocities committed by the U.S. governmentduring the 1970s in countries including Vietnam, Laos, East Timor and Chile.

The senator's resulting outburst, in all its wild-eyed wonder, had the unfortunate effect of overshadowing the substance of the their charges: namely, that the bloated figure wheeled out before them had, in the course of an eight-year run as the chief U.S. foreign policy strategist, masterminded a series of violent overt and covert campaigns against civilians and democratic governments across Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Kissinger spent a little more than two of those years beginning officially on Jan. 20, 1969, and ending on that same date in 1977 serving concurrently as secretary of state and national security advisor to President Richard "d**k" Nixon and, after his resignation, Gerald Ford. His power, and the seemingly counterintuitive respect he inspires, cannot be overstated, nor can it be rationally explained. There are hundreds of thousands of deaths on his crooked shoulders. Millions more were physically or psychologically wounded.

The secret bombing of Cambodia: The German-born "president whisperer" made his first dark mark on the planet in early 1969, when, confronted with continued advances by North Vietnamese fighters from bases in neighboring Cambodia, he and Nixon conspired to order a top-secret bombing campaign called "Operation Breakfast," which turned into the longer-running "Operation Menu."

It might seem quaint today, given the mind-bending frequency of executive power overreaches, but Nixon's authorization to strike inside eastern Cambodia and Laos would come to represent a then-unprecedented scale of wartime deceit and illegality. Over the next four years, the U.S. would drop millions of tons of explosives on the neutral countries, all the while denying the programs' existence at every turn.

"Estimates of the number of people killed begin in thelow hundreds of thousands and range up from there," Henry Grabar wrote in the Atlantic, "but the truth is that no one has any idea." World Without Genocide, a watchdog organization, estimates that 750,000 Cambodians were killed between 1970 and 1974, most of them by "American B-52 bombers, using napalm and dart cluster-bombs to destroy suspected Viet Cong targets."

No one in the U.S. had anything more than a suspicion it was happening until May 9, 1969, when theNew York Times published a story titled "Raids in Cambodia by U.S. Unprotested." Kissinger responded swiftly, telling aides and the president, "We mustcrushthese [leakers and journalists]. We must destroy them." Infamous FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover was more than happy to oblige and, as told in Robert Weiner's Enemies: A History of the FBI, the two quickly set up wiretaps on the aides Kissinger suspected had leaked the story. Kissinger denied it all until 1992, when he conceded his part in the process of settling a related lawsuit.

The side effects from the Cambodian campaign were far more costly to the region that felt the brunt of the bombing. In Cambodia itself, the resulting chaos cleared the way for the rise of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. Their brutal regime is estimated to have killed between one and two million people between 1975 and 1979.

Backing Indonesia's invasion of East Timor: Kissinger's role in Vietnam fills volumes, but it's his and America's ostensible absence in East Timor on Dec. 7, 1975, that speaks more directly to his malignant diplomatic tactics.

Traveling alongside President Gerald Ford, Kissinger led a Dec. 6 meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, with Indonesian dictator Suharto. At issue: East Timor, at the time a small Southeast Asian territory recently abandoned by the colonial Portuguese. With Ford concerned about regional Communists filling the vacuum and Suharto, an ally, with his eyes set on an invasion and occupation, Kissinger only asked that the Indonesians wait until the U.S. delegation leave to begin their assault. Additionally, he promised to supply Suharto with American armsover the inevitable objections of Congress.

"We will understand and will not press you on the issue. We understand the problem and the intentions you have," Kissinger told Suharto, the details emerging viatranscripts released in 2001. "We would be able to influence the reaction in America if whatever happens happens after we return. If you have made plans, we will do our best to keep everyone quiet until the president returns home."

The transcripts also reveal Kissinger asking Suharto if he anticipated a "long guerilla war."Suharto responded that it would be "small."

And so the Americans left. The invasion of East Timor, carried out with a steady flow of American support, was swift. They waited one day. The fight lasted much longer, carrying on for nearly a quarter century. The estimated death toll: 200,000. Suharto died in 2008 after stepping down a decade earlier, following the deaths of 500 student protesters.

Taking down the Chilean government: The words"September 11" mean something very different, but just as painful, for the people of Chile. On that date in 1973, a CIA-backed coup ousted and assassinated the country's democratically-elected President Salvador Allende. The socialist was replaced with Gen. Augusto Pinochet, a right-wing thug who would rule the country as a dictator for 17 brutal years.

After Allende was elected on Sept. 4, 1970, Kissinger declared in a memo to Nixon that the vote "poses for us one of the most serious challenges ever faced in this hemisphere."

"Your decision as to what to do about it may be the most historic and difficult foreign affairs decision you will make this year," he wrote. U.S. businesses had hundreds of millions tied up in Latin America, which has been and remains a target for strategic American enemies. Kissinger decided that allowing Allende to remain in power would create an "insidious model effect." Which is to say, other countries under the American hemispheric umbrella might see that they could democratically elect a government and make decisions out from under U.S. boot heels.

Soon after the Sept. 11 coup, Kissinger was quick to order his man in Santiago to deliver to Pinochet "our strongest desires to cooperate closely and establish firm basis for cordial and most constructive relationship." He did and Kissinger's shop in Washington, D.C., working with the CIA began a long relationship with the regime. Chile's murderous National Intelligence Directorate was built by American agents.

Pinochet's military dictatorship, one of a number of right-wing juntas that dominated, degraded and bled Latin America in the 1970s and 80s, killed thousands and tortured an estimated 29,000, according to a survey conducted by a government commission. The great majority of those crimes happened in 1973, with Kissinger in close contact the whole way. After he left, his Reaganite disciples supported the regime through its demise in 1990.

So what the f**k was Henry Kissinger doing in Washington, D.C.?

On the face of it, Kissinger had been summoned to discuss foreign policy matters with the Senate Armed Services Committee. The hearing, called "Global Challenges and the U.S. National Security Strategy," was as inscrutable as the title suggests. In reality, Kissinger was on Capitol Hill because he, like so much "scum" before him, sticks to and feeds off all innocent life around him. He was invited because, to people like McCain, he represents the brand of blunt hegemonic history Americans are (or at least should be) desperate to reclaim.

But Henry Kissinger's time is past. There are new "challenges." Many of them, like President Barack Obama's drone killing program, probably make the old man smile. But some day soon, Kissinger will die. If only his legacy could be buried with him.

Shake Shack IPO vaults shares into 'nosebleed' territory

(Reuters) - Shares of Shake Shack Inc (SHAK.N) more than doubled on Friday, putting a nearly $2 billion price tag on the small cult hamburger chain, in a huge bet that its growth can match top performers in the crowded "fast-casual" dining space.

Shake Shack's debut is the latest in a string of blockbuster IPOs from trendy restaurant chains that cater to younger and more affluent diners willing to pay a bit more for fresher and higher quality food. Growth-hungry investors are hoping to replicate the red-hot run of industry darling Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG.N).

But Shake Shack's own CEO Randy Garutti cast doubt on whether it will do so, calling the chain known for decadent milkshakes and hormone- and antibiotic-free burgers a "very measured growth company."

Its IPO followed the successful listing two months ago of fellow premium burger seller Habit Restaurants (HABT.O). Other hot restaurant debuts have been followed by stock swoons, including Noodles & Co (NDLS.O) and sandwich maker Potbelly Corp (PBPB.O).

Based on 2013 earnings, the company that grew out of a hotdog cart in New York's Madison Square Park is trading at an eye-popping price-to-earnings ratio of about 325, with each restaurant valued at about $27 million.

"Seems like a nosebleed valuation," said Bob Goldin, an executive vice president at foodservice consultancy Technomic. Shake Shack would need "explosive growth for years and years" to justify its stock price, he said.

Its shares hit a session high of $52.50, a gain of 150 percent from its IPO price of $21, raising questions about whether the stock was overvalued. The stock trimmed gains slightly to close at $45.90.

"This is a valuation hurdle that is well ... shaky," said Douglas Kass, president of hedge fund Seabreeze Partners Management Inc, describing the rally as indicative of "silly season."

While the 63-unit chain boasts some of the industry's highest average annual restaurant sales, it only plans to add 10 domestic restaurants per year. Many of those new restaurants will be in lower-profit-margin markets outside New York City.

The company, which had revenue of $83.8 million in the 39 weeks to Sept. 24, eventually plans to have 450 U.S. locations. Shake Shack will also slowly expand overseas, with a store set to open in London later this year and others likely to follow, Garutti said, without providing a specific forecast.

When Chipotle went public in 2006, it had almost 500 U.S. restaurants. Shares in the chain, which now has roughly 1,700 U.S. restaurants and is known for its uncanny ability to profitably increase sales, debuted at $22 and trade at more than $710.

"We're at a point where investors are willing to give 'story' stocks the benefit of a doubt," said James Angel, associate professor of finance at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business.

Repeating Chipotle's success has proven elusive for most restaurant operators, and it could be even harder to do in the crowded and competitive high-quality burger segment.

"If it were easy to replicate, plenty of other people would have already done it," said Angel.

Shake Shack raised $105 million from its initial public offering.

Its IPO has been bonanza for founder Daniel Meyer, whose 21 percent stake was worth about $390 million based on the stock's intraday high.

Meyer, the chef-owner of popular New York restaurants Blue Smoke, Gramercy Tavern and Union Square Cafe, opened the first Shake Shack in 2004.

J.P. Morgan and Morgan Stanley were lead underwriters for the IPO.

Shake Shack's customers spend roughly $30 for a meal for two, considerably more than diners spend at struggling fast-food giant McDonald's Inc (MCD.N), which this week replaced its CEO after a dismal 2014.

Sales at premium burger chains, which also include Five Guys Burgers and Fries, the Counter and Smashburger, rose 9 percent in 2013, according to Technomic, while overall sales at all burger chains including McDonald's fell 1 percent.

Some old-school operators are also riding the wave. Shares in mall-based chain Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, which went public over a decade ago, have more than doubled in the last two years.

Burger mania: Shake Shack stock up 135%

Burger mania: Shake Shack stock up135%

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) Shake Shack is no longer just a cult favorite for foodies. Its now a cult stock too.

The upscale burger joints shares surged 135% Friday morning in their debut on the New York Stock Exchange.

Shake Shack priced its initial public offering at $21 a share Thursday evening above the price range Shake Shack set earlier this week. It opened at $47.21 and quickly shot above $50 a share before pulling back slightly.

The company raised $105 million from the stock sale. And at Friday mornings price of about $49, Shake Shack is worth $1.74 billion.

Shake Shack is sharing some of the wealth with customers too. To celebrate its first day as a public company, Shake Shack will be offering free breakfast sandwiches and burgers at a food truck outside the NYSE.

Restaurateur Danny Meyer, who is chairman of Shake Shack and founder of the Union Square Hospitality Group that started Shake Shack, owns a 21% stake in the company. His share is now worth nearly $365 million.

Meyer thanked employees and fans in a tweet Thursday night.

#Gratitude. Team, Guests, Community, Suppliers, and Investors. In that order. Thank you all, he wrote.

Shake Shack, which started in 2001 as a hot dog cart in New Yorks Madison Square Park, has quickly become a Big Apple icon.

Expanding but not too quickly. The company currently operates just 63 restaurants worldwide but 16 of them are in the metropolitan New York City area.

Shake Shack has already planted outposts in several global markets, such as London, Moscow, Kuwait, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

And the company has said that it wants to expand relatively slowly. It is targeting 10 new locations in the U.S. a year as well as more international locations.

The strategy has been extremely successful so far. Shake Shack reported revenue of $83.8 million in the first three quarters of last year, an increase of more than 40% from the same period in 2013.

Shake Shack is also profitable. But net income fell in the first nine months of 2014, primarily due to higher costs for paper, food and labor as the company opened more locations.

Profiting from the problems at Mickey Ds? Still, Shake Shack appears to be doing well at the expense of McDonalds. The CEO of McDonalds announced his retirement this week following another quarter of bleak sales.

Shake Shack bills itself as a fine casual dining chain, a play on the fast casual term popularized by Chipotle and Panera.

In addition to having the backing of star chef Meyer, Shake Shack says in its IPO filing that it prides itself on using sustainable ingredients, such as all-natural, hormone and antibiotic-free beef.

The proof is in the prices. A typical burger at Shake Shack can cost twice as much as a Big Mac.

Shake Shack also differentiates itself from other burger restaurants by selling hot dogs, beer, wine and of course frozen custard shakes.

Investors are clearly hungry for restaurant IPOs.

El Pollo Loco, Potbelly, Noodles and Zoes Kitchen have gone public in the past two years and soared on their first day of trading.

There is a lot of competition in the burger wars. But those four stocks are now well off their highs.

So is Habit, a popular California burger chain that went public last November and more than doubled in its debut.

Habit may not be as well-known to New Yorkers as Shake Shack. But its burgers were voted best in America by readers of Consumer Reports last year.

To that end, competition could prove to be the biggest risk for Shake Shack.

Even though its burgers are delicious, so are ones made by privately held Five Guys, Smashburger, Bareburger, In-N-Out and many other regional and national upstarts.

Heck, Sonic is doing really well lately thanks to strong demand for its burgers.

But pricey burgers could wind up being another culinary fad too. Krispy Kreme was a hot IPO when the doughnut chain went public in 2000. But the stock is now trading more than 60% below its all-time high.

Shake Shack has already satisfied the palates of hipster burger gourmands. But now has to deal with the fickle tastes of Wall Street traders and hedge funds too.

'Scandal' Returns to Primetime: What We Need from Olivia Pope

We've been saving our white hat, popcorn and red wine for this day. "Scandal" finally returns from its mid-season break tonight. When we last saw Olivia Pope, she had been kidnapped after pulling a "90210" and deciding to choose herself over the two lovers fighting for her affection. It may well have been the most stable and focused decision she's made during the entire series. And yet, even with that decision, our leading lady couldn't escape the drama.

A missing Olivia Pope isn't the only thing intriguing us. Here are a few things we'd like to see from "Scandal" during the second half of the season.

ABC via Getty Images

SCANDAL - ABC's "Scandal" stars Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope. (Craig Sjodin/ABC via Getty Images)

Where's Olivia?

Hopefully, the first things we learn are who kidnapped Olivia, why and how it was done so quickly. It took mere seconds. (At this point she really should know that she needs better security.)

Could it be her father holding a grudge because his only daughter tried to murder him which shouldn't be such a big deal given Papa Pope's personal history with Olivia? Is this Fitz trying to exert a power play to win back the woman who's kept his eye wandering since the series began? Or, is this the work of some new political powerhouse we have yet to meet? Our fingers are crossed that Jan. 29 will reveal all.

SCANDAL - "Where's the Black Lady?" - With Olivia still missing, the team comes together to do whatever it takes to find her and get her home safely, on "Scandal," THURSDAY FEBRUARY 5 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (Photo by Kelsey McNeal/ABC via Getty Images)

We Need More Mellie

Even if you disliked Mellie before season four, once you saw drunk Mellie, cry-baby Mellie and smelly Mellie, there was no turning back. The fictional first lady's response to her son's death and her husband's secret suicide attempt showed viewers a side where even her most fervent detractors had to embrace her.

Just when she's getting back to normal, Mellie Grant is unknowingly dealt another blow when the audience learns her lover, the vice president, secretly is sleeping with the chairperson of the Republican National Committee. Mellie cannot seem to catch a break.

And after watching her slowly make her way back from the brink, grabbing what she wants and seemingly finding a way to be happy in the White House, she's unknowingly repaid with treachery. Andrew, why? Do you remember how she responded when Fitz squashed her relationship with the vice president? We're betting all-out crazy Mellie makes a grand entrance when she learns of Andrew's bed-hopping betrayal. Here's to hoping there's some '90s-style "Melrose Place" inspired slap fighting between Mellie and Elizabeth North.

ABC via Getty Images

SCANDAL - "The Fluffer" - Abby steps in as Olivia's proxy and takes on duties at the White House. Meanwhile, the team continues to investigate B613, and someone throws a wrench in Reston's presidential campaign, on ABC's "Scandal," THURSDAY, APRIL 3 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Ron Tom) JOE MORTON, KHANDI ALEXANDER, KERRY WASHINGTON

It's Time for Pope Family Reunion

Whenever Mama or Papa Pope are in a scene, they own it. Olivia seems like a shriveled flower compared to her domineering parents, who so easily grab the attention. Rowan Pope always is schooling the audience and Olivia, and Maya Lewis is just so insane you want to see more of her. A stronger Olivia meeting with her familial foes could bring the biggest bang of the season.

But now that Liv has shown she literally would shoot her father to be free of him and shown her mother no mercy, we'd love to see this trio get back together. We want it so badly, we'd even take it in a familial counseling session where surely the therapist would have to be murdered before the session's end. Problems with Popes.

ABC via Getty Images

SCANDAL - "More Cattle, Less Bull" -The team investigates Democratic Congresswoman Josie Marcus, while Olivia and Mellie have a surprising run-in during the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Meanwhile, Jake and Huck get closer to the truth about Operation Remington, which could lead to devastating results, on ABC's "Scandal," THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (Photo by Richard Cartwright/ABC via Getty Images) KERRY WASHINGTON, SCOTT FOLEY

Olivia's Fabulous Fashion

Part of "Scandal's" soapy fun is the clothing. The audience waits to see not only how'll she'll react, but also what she's wearing when she reacts. Does this meeting with a lover call for fancy dress or a more relaxed look? What kind of white outfit will she display? Even if you're over Olivia Pope and her life choices, you could never be over her look.

How Melissa Gilbert Feels About Going From Size DD to 'Just an Average B'

Melissa Gilbert is used to being in the spotlight.

The 50-year-old actress who, for a decade, played Laura Ingalls Wilder on the iconic TV series, Little House on the Prairie, grew up before our eyes. She's starred in a string of TV movies and even served as president of the Screen Actors Guild.

Lately, Gilbert has been making headlines for her decision to have her breast implants surgically removed earlier this month.

In an interview with ABC News, Gilbert talked about her decision to downsize from a cup size DD to a B.

Just an average B, not a big B, Gilbert said.

Gilbert said shed had implants for 20 years -- first saline, then silicone. Insecurity about her physical appearance set in long before she underwent any operations because she was a late bloomer, she said.

In her last couple of years of her time on Little House on the Prairie, Gilbert said she played an adult version of her character.

It was just an assumption that it was time to wear a padded bra, that an A-cup was not enough. I had to be a B, she said.

She was 16 then.

So you imagine the message in my head is like, OK, well, these are not right, she said.

Making matters tougher, her on-screen nemesis and off-screen friend, Alison Arngrim -- who played Nellie Oleson on the show -- was developing physically, while she wasnt, Gilbert said.

There was a huge difference," Gilbert said. "I was wearing, like, you know, Speedo one-piece bathing suits. She was wearing all these sort of sexy bikinis and stuff. I was nowhere near that, Gilbert said.

She added: She's a year older than me and she's wearing bras.

Gilbert has written on her blog that after her first son was born and she had finished breast-feeding, her then-husband made negative comments about her chest. After the divorce, she decided to have breast implants when she started dating again.

The implant surgery went well, but in 2004, she started reading how implants should be replaced every 10 to 15 years, she wrote. Hers were already 12 years old.

Removing the implants has brought benefits, said Gilbert, who appeared on season 14 of ABCs Dancing With the Stars.

Not only do I feel healthier and better, but I don't have these inappropriately large b*****s that were wrong for my body, kind of getting the way, she said. I sleep more comfortably. And the bonus is I have disc issues in my neck. And I have absolutely no pulling on my shoulders. And all the pain in my neck has completely disappeared since the surgery."

Gilbert said her third husband, actor Timothy Busfield, has backed her decision.

My husband has been so supportive and so sweet about this whole process ... He said, Do it, go. Go, she said.

Now that the removal is over, her husband seems perfectly happy, Gilbert said. I don't think he's mourning or grieving anything.

Although she removed her implants, Gilbert said shes not against them, but she hopes women who are considering such augmentation consider all the risks before going under the knife for what is major surgery.

The one thing that the medical community will admit to is that breast implants will not last forever in your body. And have to be replaced, she said. When you're getting the implants, you're making a commitment -- not just to that operation, but [to another one] every 10 to 15 years.

She agreed that women likely dont consider that aspect when theyre first considering breast enhancement.

And when they hear it, ads on the radio, like I did in the car the other day, We're having a special for $4,000 for implants, women go, Oh my gosh, $4,000 for implants, that's great. But you don't realize that 10, 15 years from now you're going to have to do it again. And again. And again, she said.

Criminal Minds Season 10 Episode 13 Review: Nelson's Sparrow

This engrossing and very well written hour of TV could easily have been titled "Endings and Beginnings."

Criminal Minds Season 10 Episode 13 started off with an emotional horror: the discovery of Gideon's murdered body.

Poor Reid who apparently was the closest to him took it quite hard. It was up to Morgan to provide the three words that allowed him to begin to crawl out of the pit of his loss: we need you.

There were so many gems packed into 60 minutes that it's hard to highlight which one shone the brightest.

Hotch telling the story he'd heard from Gideon about a snowstorm, a sled and a ride down Rattlesnake Hill at top speed seems to be the best part, and not just because we actually saw that sober exterior of his crack into outright laughter.

A close runner-up might be Young Rossi and Gideon profiling each other, only to learn that both were about to become dads.

Another bit of gold was hearing Gideon ask Rossi what his middle name was (Stephen), so that he knew what to call his newborn son later on.

Man, there was so much.

As AJ Cook told us a few weeks ago, Ben Savage as Young Gideon was incredible! I agree with her too: he just was Gideon, right down to his mannerisms and speech patterns. Plus, the way he physically looked, with his facial features and mostly sober attitude, it wouldn't be too hard to imagine him as a young Mandy Patinkin.

It was so interesting to discover that this cold case was the impetus for the creation of the BAU. You could almost hear Rossi's suppressed laughter at telling Reid that the three-person unit used to be referred to as the BS Unit.

The numerous flashbacks allowed us to get a sense of the impact of Gideon's death on Rossi, so that it was easy to understand his decision to put his gun down - practically telegraphing his desire to shoot Mallick down rather than take him to prison.

Plus, the ugliness of the torture Mallick put his victims through made it tough to have any kind of sympathy for him... especially after he bragged about it, and bragged about killing Gideon as well.

This episode had the perfect mix of back story, character emphasis and case-of-the-week puzzle. No doubt this has a lot to do with the fact that Kirsten Vangsness and Erica Messer co-wrote it. You know, it wouldn't bother me a bit if the pair of them collaborated on another one or two or ten episodes.

This one was so well put together.

The only thing I didn't get was why the unsub was trying to turn his victim into a bird. We get that his aunt was a member of the bird watching club, and that she died when he was still quite young. There was just a disconnect there that never quite married the two events her death and his decision to find a young woman to replace her.

It was all creepy and as such vintage Criminal Minds but....it didn't quite make sense.

Final thoughts:

  • The song playing at the end was Edge of the Dark, by Armon Jay on the album Everything's Different, Nothing's Changed.
  • Rossi and Gideon joking about getting a private plane.
  • Hotch's quote of Euripedes at the end When a good man is hurt, all who would be called good must suffer with him was also quoted by Gideon in Season 1 Episode 5 "Broken Mirror"
  • Some of the Criminal Minds quotes are gold, especially Hotch's recollection of a story told to him by Gideon.

What are you thoughts on this episode? Do you empathize with Rossi's decision? Were there any other "gotchas" that were missed here? If you're unsure, be sure to watch Criminal Minds online and then chime in on the comments below!

Detective Kate Beckett is bad a*s. She's taken down everyone from low-life murderers to a corrupt US Senator and managed to do it in style with her amazing and highly sought after collection of outerwear but we think her wild west outfit might be her ruggedly handsome husband's favorite. We know it's one of ours.

National Guard helps Stonington dig out after Blizzard 2015

STONINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) While it was back to business in some parts of the state Wednesday, more National Guardsmen arrived in southeastern Connecticut, one of the hardest hit areas of the state.

Stonington is getting help digging out after nearly two feet fell on the town. Ten guardsmen were deployed Tuesday, and five more arrived Wednesday, helping get the town out of a state of emergency.

The Guardsmen rolled into town Tuesday night, and by 2 a.m. Wednesday they were busy removing tons of snow from downtown Pawcatuck. After that, they arrived at Mystic Middle School at 7 a.m. for another round of removal.

There are tremendous sized piles up there, so Im not sure if we could have done this without them, said Mystic Middle School principal Greg Keith.

Principal Keith says after the town got more than 20 inches of snow, the piles in the parking lot were huge.

Im seven-feet, so if the piles higher than me, which Im sure it is, it would be a nice photo, said Keith.

The National Guardsmen were called in after the Governor declared a state of emergency, making them available to towns that needed the extra help.

Were watching across the way and two of the trucks went down, said Stonington first selectman Greg Crouse. We blew a transmission, and another four-wheel drive went on another truck.

With two trucks down and the snow piling up, Stonington took advantage of the Governors offer. The convoy left town once the state of emergency ended. Stonington budgets $200,000 for snow removal and may have used up half for this storm alone.

This is definitely an extreme hit and its tough, said Crouse.

Stonington is the only town which has requested help from the National Guard so far, so the Guardsmen will remain at their base in Niantic, ready to go for the next time theyre needed.

Snow, ice on its way to southeast Michigan

DETROIT -

Snow and ice are on the way to Detroit and Southeast Michigan, but Wednesday evening and night plans will be safe. Slippery weather returns at the start of Thursday morning's commute.

Please join me on Twitter (@AndrewLocal4) for regular weather updates.

Wednesday evening will become partly cloudy and remain cold with temperatures in the mid and upper 20s. Families with dinner plans or anyone traveling to ice skate in Campus Martius will be greeted with dry road conditions.

Weather remains favorable, just colder, Wednesday night. Temps will decrease to the low 20s after midnight with skies becoming overcast.

Snow and ice return during Thursday's pre-dawn hours. At 4am, snow sleet and freezing rain will appear in Lenawee, Livingston and Washtenaw Counties and progress eastward.

All accumulations will be light during the morning and into the afternoon, but still pose as a significant nuisance, inconvenience or worse if not treated with extreme caution.

Areas south of 8 Mile, including the City Of Detroit, will have a greater mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain during the AM rush hour up to the end of lunchtime. This will cut down on snow totals by the end of the afternoon, but layers of ice will appear. Up to 1 inch of snow is possible by 4pm; some isolated areas south of the Wayne-Oakland County and Washtenaw-Livingston County lines will have between 1 and 2 inches.

Areas north of 8 Mile, including Howell, Pontiac and Mount Clemens, will have snow and sleet. This will mean slightly more snow but a similar build-up of ice. Many neighborhoods in Livingston, Macomb and Oakland County will end up with 1 to 3 inches of snow by the end of Thursday afternoon. 2 to 3 inch accumulations are more likely north of M-59 (northern Oakland and northern Macomb Counties).

Genesee, Lapeer, Sanilac and St. Clair Counties are more likely to get snow with some sleet. 3 inches of new snow is possible along the I-69 corridor, with slightly more in isolated spots.

[UPDATE] NYC Travel Ban Lifted, MTA Service Will Resume This Morning

[UPDATE BELOW] Mayor de Blasio lifted the city-wide travel ban this morning after that devastating blizzard turned out to be just a bunch of stupid snow. There's about 7.8 inches in Central Park this morningnot the 24 inches or more that was expectedand current forecasts don't call for much more additional accumulation today. And there is certainly no reason to doubt those forecasts.

The MTA is also resuming service system-wide this morning, but it's going to take hours for trains and buses to get back up to full speed. Staten Island Ferry service has resumed.

New York State has updates on the storm here. Mayor de Blasio will appear on CNN's New Day at 8 a.m. to update New Yorkers on the storm, and Governor Cuomo is giving a press conference now.

Update 8:05 a.m.: Cuomo says subway service will resume at 9 a.m. and, by noon, the subways should be back to Sunday-level service, which is about 60% of weekday service. The MTA expects the system to be back to a normal weekday schedule tomorrow. PATH train service will resume around 9:30 a.m.

Cuomo cautioned that the roads are still dangerous, and there is ice lurking under the snow in some places. "If you don't have to travel today, you don't want to be traveling today," Cuomo warned. "While roads are passable, they are not clear."

Asked if officials overreacted to the storm, Cuomo reminded reporters of the huge snowstorm that crippled Buffalo in Novembera storm that Cuomo said he underestimated. "You make big decision based on the best information you have," Cuomo said, adding, "I do not criticize weather forecasters."

Cuomo also posited that taking the trains out of service and implementing a travel ban enabled the city to bounce back faster, because the roads were clear for plows to get through and trains weren't stranded. "If you tally it up, I don't know that this wasn't the most prudent course," Cuomo said.

We'll update as more info comes in, but for now here's Cuomo's official announcement:

The travel ban in the Hudson Valley (Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster, Westchester counties), Nassau County, and New York City is lifted effective at 7:30 a.m. I-84 as well as the Thruway have been reopened. Drivers should use extreme caution and prepare properly as driving conditions remain poor and other states still may have travel bans in effect.

The travel ban for Suffolk County remains in effect.

System wide service for the MTA and PATH is expected to resume this morning and further updates will be provided at 8 a.m. Longer suspension can be expected on parts of the LIRR reaching Eastern Long Island.

More information about the reopening of transit will become available by 8 a.m. New Yorkers should continue to exercise extreme caution.

Snow accumulation overnight on Long Island was heavy, and the New York City and Hudson Valley regions experienced moderate precipitation. According to the National Weather Service, the region should expect snowfall, wind and low temperatures, with especially heavy snowfall on Eastern Long Island, as today progresses. A blizzard warning remains in effect through midnight for Suffolk County.

Miss Colombia crowned Miss Universe 2015

Last Updated Jan 26, 2015 12:10 AM EST

Miss Colombia Paulina Vega has been crowned Miss Universe, beating out first runner-up Miss USA Nia Sanchez and contestants from more than 80 other countries at Sunday's pageant in Miami.

Vega, a 22-year-old student of business administration from Barranquilla, Colombia, said the contests leading up to Miss Universe were the first she had participated in. She also said they would be her last as she would be eager to return to her studies in Colombia after her reign.

"It will be a dream come true to represent the woman of today. A woman that not only cares about being beautiful and being glamorous, but also cares about being a professional, intelligent, hard-working person," Vega had said earlier in the week in talking about the role of the winner.

Following Sanchez, the 24-year-old Miss USA from Las Vegas, Nevada, the second runner-up was Miss Ukraine Diana Harkusha.

Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennell and Miss Netherlands Yasmin Verheijen were also among the top five, emerging from the field of 88 contestants.

Sanchez, a 24-year-old resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, had spoken earlier of looking forward to the often-dreaded interview portion. She had been running practice questions all week with her roommate Miss Australia Tegan Martin, who made it to the top ten.

Sanchez has a fourth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has traveled the country teaching others. She spoke previously about equipping women to defend themselves against crime.

"It's just something that's so prevalent in our society and why not empower women to take control of a dangerous situation into their own hand," she said.

"Today Show" personality Natalie Morales served as host of the show. Miss Colombia was crowned by the outgoing Miss Universe, Gabriela Isler of Venezuela. The broadcast included performances by singers Nick Jonas and Prince Royce.

Crowd favorite Miss Venezuela Migbelis Lynette Castellanos was cut after the top ten. She had tremendous support and pressure locally and back home. The Miami suburb of Doral, which was host to the women during their stay, is also known as "Doralzuela" for its many Venezuelan residents. Three of the last six Miss Universe titles have gone to Venezuela, where beauty pageants are big business.

Mark Ruffalo gives SAG Awards acceptance speech via Twitter

Actor Mark Ruffalo attends the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences' 2014 Governors Awards at The Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center on Nov. 8, 2014, in Hollywood, California. Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

Mark Ruffalo couldn't make it to the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night to accept his award, but he made up for it on Twitter.

The 47-year-old actor, who won best male actor in a TV movie or miniseries for HBO's "The Normal Heart," tweeted from his bed, giving his acceptance speech online -- thanking everyone from his fellow cast members and his publicists to his family.

Before the win, Ruffalo explained that he was going to be early because he had to be up for work in a few hours. Then -- to his surprise -- his wife woke him up to tell him the good news.

Check it out his "speech" below:

Ruffalo also received some love at the awards show itself.

When Julia Robert (Ruffalo's co-star in "The Normal Heart") took to the SAG Awards stage, she said, "hey had a wordy little tongue twister for me to start with about how wonderful actors are, but instead I just want to say, Mark Ruffalo is one outstanding actor. And I am so absolutely tickled to my toes that he won tonight. He wasn't here! Waitin' for that Nor'easter."

Josh Gordon Fails Drug Test: Twitter Reacts to Latest Report, Likely Suspension

Scott Cunningham/Getty Images

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon may be looking at another major suspension after reportedly violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news on Sunday, noting the All-Pro wideout would be out for a year:

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio added that any appeal from Gordon likely won't prove fruitful:

Florio also reported that alcohol was the substance for which Gordon tested positive:

New Orleans Saints tight end Benjamin Watson, who played with Gordon in 2012, shared his reaction to the news:

Former teammate D'Qwell Jackson also commented:

The MMQB's Peter King took the same attitude:

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller and Pro Football Focus' Sam Monson both bemoaned how such a talented player is seemingly shooting himself in the foot time and again:

Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith wonders if Gordon might be the most egregious case of wasted potential ever:

This is far from the first time the 23-year-old has run afoul of league rules.

Last summer, the NFL suspended Gordon for the entire 2014 season after he violated the league's substance-abuse policy. After the league and players' union agreed to a new drug-testing policy in September, the NFLreducedhis suspension to 10 games.

The Browns also suspended Gordon for the team's regular-season finale. Mike Loykoof NEPatriotsDraft.com is one of many who feel Gordon's time in Cleveland is over:

CBSSports.com's Dane Brugler tweeted that Gordon's predicament only heightens the Browns' need for another top-end wide receiver:

Gordon has appeared in 35 NFL games over three years, catching 161 passes for 2,754 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Should he be suspended, the earliest fans would get to see Gordon on an NFL field again is likely 2016.

Pro Bowl 2015: Time, TV schedule, rosters, rule changes, and online streaming

The 2015 Pro Bowl is here, and we've got all you need to know heading into the game.

It's finally here -- the biggest game of the season, featuring the best talent in the league. It's the one you've all been waiting for ... the 2015 Pro Bowl! Of course, that's how the league would like reality to look, and that's certainly how they try and bill it, but the Pro Bowl has struggled to maintain viewers in recent years.

Whatever the case, the latest iteration of the game continues to evolve as the league tries to find the sweet spot that keeps people interested, and it's set for Sunday night on ESPN. This year, they had two former players serve as captains to draft the respective teams to play in the Pro Bowl, something they started doing last year. That event drew some attention, though it also did as much last year while the game itself saw its ratings drop.

This year, it's Michael Irvin and Cris Carter captaining the two teams. Irvin, naturally, grabbed a whole bunch of Dallas players for his team, including Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray, Tyron Smith and Jason Witten. Carter ended up with some big-name players, including Andrew Luck and J.J. Watt.

Rule changes

There's been plenty of rule tweaks for this year's game. First off: there will be no kickoff, for whatever reason. It might be that the league doesn't want players to get injured in an exhibition game, but whatever the case, the coin toss will determine who gets the ball first, and said ball will be placed at the 25-yard line.

That will occur after scores, but also at the start of each quarter. The league is adding a two-minute warning to the first and third quarters, and the ball will change possession at that point. The thinking here is that two-minute drills are more exciting for fans. Also along that same vein, cover two and press coverage will be allowed in the game.

Outside of that, the rest has to do with the game clock. The clock will stop if the offense does not gain at least one yard in the final two minutes of each quarter, preventing stalling to let the clock run out. The clock will start after an incomplete pass after the signal of a referee outside of the last two minutes of the first half and the last five minutes of the second half. There will also be a 35-second/25-second play clock as opposed to the typical 40-second/25-second play clock.

Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore 'Mutually Decided to End Their Marriage'

Ryan Adams' 2014 self-titled album was one of the moredowncast, melancholic LPsin the singer-songwriter's vastcatalog. While much of Ryan Adams' moodier tone was likely the result of his struggle with the debilitating Mnire's disease and the death of his grandmother, this too perhaps informed his latest album: Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore announced they are divorcing after nearly six years of marriage.Us Weeklyconfirms that the unlikely couple he a prolificrocker, she a former pop star are splitting up.

Sidebar Ryan Adams' Road to Recovery

In a joint statement, the couple said, "Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams have mutually decided to end their marriage of almost six years. It is a respectful, amicable parting of ways and both Mandy and Ryan are asking for media to respect their privacy at this time."

Adams and Moore married in March 2009 in Savannah, Georgia, just four weeks after announcing their engagement. Throughout the years, the two have collaborated with one another: In 2012, Moore revealed that she had been working with Adamson her next studio album. Moore also contributed background vocals to Adams' 2011 album Ashes & Fire and Ryan Adams' "Trouble" and "Am I Safe."

However, for the most part, Adams and Moore kept their marriage out of the headlines. "I'm a private person and I'll be a gentleman and say I'm not talking about my marriage ever. I'll never talk about it. Ever," Adams said last year. Adams, whose Austin City Limits episode coincidentally airs tonight, will hit the road with Jenny Lewis for a joint tour this spring.

Mortdecai

To get it out of the way: This is not a great movie. And at an hour and 47 minutes, there could definitely be less of Mortdecai. But its current 8% rating on Rotten Tomatoes seems a little harsh for a film this silly and harmless and intermittently amusing; it's like the drunk British uncle who puts his hand on your knee at a funeral, then falls over in the hedgerow. (The plot and characters are taken from a deeply crumpet-y 1973 comic novel by Kyril Bonfiglioli called Don't Point That Thing At Me.)

Johnny Depp stars as Bonfiglioli's Charlie Mortdecai, an amoral art-dealing fop with a posh wife, Johanna (Gwyneth Paltrow, hamming it up in jodhpurs), a loyal Cockney manservant, Jock Strapp (Paul Bettany, who deserves better) and a hefty debt in overdue back taxes.

Mortdecai's dire financial straights impel him to take a job tracking down a legendary Goya painting that's gone missing, and possibly fallen into the hands of international terrorists. His search leads to a series of pinballing, straining-madly-for-madcap scenes involving n**i war crimes, Russian thugs, a shifty Los Angeles billionaire and his nymphomaniac daughter (Jeff Goldblum and Olivia Munn, respectively) and a government agent (Ewan MacGregor) who is also an old rival for the affections of Johanna.

The travel budget seems unlimited, and the setpieces look alarmingly expensive. But mostly it's all just a showcase for Depp's preening, prat-falling, out-of-time aristocrat; he's less a characterthan a mincing bundle of mannerisms and secondhand David Niven-isms. (An inordinate number of gags revolve around his mustache, which looks like two wet baby ferrets nuzzling before a warm fire.)

The movie is too odd and randy to play for kids on an Austin Powers level, and too broad to really work as farce. But Depp, G*d bless him, fully commits, and finds a few genuinely funny moments amidst all the outsize mugging and mild sociopathy. Go if you're a raging Anglophile with an afternoon to burn or you just love Depp, even at his hammiest. Otherwise, don't point this thing at you. C-

NASCAR Legend Jeff Gordon To Retire From Racing

One of NASCAR's greatest is planning a pit stop. Four-time cup champion Jeff Gordon says this season will be his last as a full-time driver.

For more than two decades, Jeff Gordon has been the man behind the wheel of number 24 racking up 92 career victories, including four championships.

But now the NASCAR superstar - who ranks third in all time race wins - says it's time to hit the brakes.

"This is certainly something I've been thinking about for years.//I always said I wanted to step away on my own terms if possible," Gordon tells CBS News.

A clean-cut California native, the 43-year-old helped transcend the sport of race car driving beyond its southern roots, elevating NASCAR to a national obsession.

"Jeff Gordon became the poster boy for NASCAR and as NASCAR grew, Jeff Gordon fit the image that Nascar wanted to court," says Nick Bromberg, Sports Editor for Yahoo! "Not only was he good, he was popular, he was polarizing but he was also marketable to the entire country."

"Marketable" on and off the track. He hosted Saturday Night Live and has been a popular pitchman for Pepsi and other brands.

Gordon's announcement comes after one of his best seasons in years.

But one that also saw him knocked out of contention for the championship, following a collision with driver Brad Keselowski that led to an all out scuffle.

Gordon says a number of factors contributed to his decision including recurring back pain."It wasn't just one thing. Yeah the back thing played a role. I think that just more confirmed things for me than anything else."

Still, he stopped short of calling it a retirement."The way I see myself in the world is that retirement means you go off to a beach somewhere or sit on the rocking chair on the front porch// That's not me I plan on working. I'm actually gonna have to get a real job now," he laughs.

In The Trenches: 2015 Senior Bowl

The 2015 Senior Bowl being played at 4 p.m. today at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. features some of the best talent college football has to offer.

With every player on both the North and South rosters looking to make an impression on NFL scouts, team personnel and coaches, theres always a heightened sense of competition in the Senior Bowl practices leading up to the game.

This years game features a great deal of depth in the trenches, both on the offensive and defensive lines. As he watched a practice session this week, NFL Media draft expert Mike Mayock gave his quick takes on the offensive and defensive linemen that have stood out to him in this years Senior Bowl class.

On defensive tackle Danny Shelton (Washington):Yeah, we just saw the Haloti Ngata local light, Danny Shelton with numbers ripped off. He might be the best player in this game and this is a drill where the defense can dominate. [Its a] one-on-one drill, its pass protection. Theres no place to hide. He has that old Reggie White, Howie Long pump-pump move.

On guard Laken Tomlinson (Duke):Laken Tomlinson, the guard from Duke. I think I have a higher grade on him than most the people Ive seen. Hes a big, square, tough guy. [Hes a] road grater in the run game, but I think hes a better pass protector. This might be a Top 10 pick at the end of the day. Tomlinson is having a good day, folks. You see at the end of the play when the defender runs toward the quarterback, b***s gone.

On tackle T.J. Clemmings (Pittsburgh):This is left tackle, T.J. Clemmings. He played two years of high school football, had basketball scholarship offers Seton Hall and Providence I believe. I believe at the end of the day, if things play out, he can be a Top 10 pick. His physical traits are all left tackle. Hes got beautiful feet, hes a dancing bear, and hes a guy thats pass protection first. He just needs to clean up technique and get stronger in his core areas. Clemmings, a little bit of reacher, but he did a great job that time. Hes got the build of a Tyron Smith from the Cowboys and hes got the feet.

On guard Robert Myers (Tennessee State):Thats the Division-II player, Myers from Tennessee State whos got some ability, but looked really slow trying to power step, meaning that inside step, that inside move taking an inside step driving down across the line of scrimmage.

On tackle Rob Havenstein (Wisconsin):Havenstein from Wisconsin at 6-feet, 8-inches against [linebacker Zack] Hodges. They dont have 6-feet, 8-inches in the Ivy League. Hodges is not used to that.

On tackle Jamil Douglas (Arizona State):Douglas played a lot of tackle at Arizona State, but I think his future is inside at guard. h**l be really good. A lot of these guys are tackles in college who are going to have to move inside. Hes one of them.

On tackle Donovan Smith (Penn State):Not many people saw him coming out, but understand, hes almost 6-feet, 6-inches, 341 pounds, hes got long arms. This kid can be a better football player than I think people understand. A lot of us got on him late because we did not expect him to come out.

On defensive tackle Louis Trinca-Pasat (Iowa):Trinca-Pasat can get up field every now and again, but hes not quite as stout against the run. Hes a movement guy. He gets stoned at the point unless hes on the move.

On tackle Ali Marpet (Hobart):[Ali Marpets] a left tackle at Hobart but I think hes a center. The thing that will help Ali Marpet is if he can play all three interior positions. Really smart kid obviously, but he needs to get on a practice squad and get bigger and stronger.

On defensive end Henry Anderson (Stanford):Henry Anderson has length. Hes so long. He could play several different positions. Hes 6-feet, 6-inches, 287 pounds. He could line up, up and down the defensive line of scrimmage. Thats what I saw from [Henry] Anderson all year long thee quickness and length to win.

On defensive end Nate Orchard (Utah):Nate Orchard is an intriguing prospect whos long. He converts speed to power and thats what he did to Havenstein right there, got up under him and jacked him. You could only hope that every tackle will go straight up like that and just rock him back to the quarterback.

Melissa Benoist Soars From 'Glee' To 'Supergirl' As CBS Superheroine Kara Zor ...

Melissa Benoist may not be mistaken for a bird or a plane, but shes about to join the ranks of superheroes in flying from the cast of Glee to a CBS pilot, Supergirl. And her new role could turn Benoist into a runaway superstar, reported Deadline.

From her late arrival at Glees William McKinley High School at a time when the original stars such as Lea Michele were shown fleeing the school and town for the Big Apple to this new role, Melissa has become known as a Hollywood casting call survivor.

To earn her new role as Supergirl, Benoist competed with a casting agency filled with potential super-heroines, including Claire Holt and Elizabeth Lail. But she made it through the competitive selection process to emerge as the newest TV hero.

Melissas role is based on the characters from DC Comics. The project itself combines the talents of Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Prods., with the entire show built around Benoists character of Kara Zor-El.

The plot reveals how Kara Zor-El was born on the planet Krypton. After escaping despite Kryptons destruction, Supergirl escapes to planet Earth. Although her powers resemble those of a famous cousin you might have heard of (Superman), Kara Zor-El hides her skills until she achieves her current age of 24.

Part of the Earthly lessons come from Karas foster family the Danvers, who warn Melissas character to be cautious with her super powers, according to the Hollywood Reporter. But with unattractive eyeglasses and pulled-back hair, even Karas prettiness is hidden until she finds herself in a position to perform a heroic act.

After that, Kara takes on the role of helping people in public, and behold, Supergirl is born!

But its not the first time that Melissa has been tasked with the challenge of portraying a superhero. During the Dynamic Duets episode on Glee, Benoist showed off her powers, as shown below.

With Melissa known as the new Rachel at McKinley High, what happens to Lea Michele? Fans can continue to view her on TV as one of the characters in Glee creator Ryan Murphys new Scream Queens, as the Inquisitr reported.

Also joining Lea on the Fox show will be Jamie Lee Curtis, Abigail Breslin, Emma Roberts, Joe Manganiello, and Keke Palmer. In addition, Ariana Grande will guest star in a recurring role.

Fox Television Groups CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman revealed that Fox pleaded with Ryan Murphy to continue creating shows for the network. Scream Queens is the result of their begging, and it will be an anthology mixing humor and (scream) horror.

SkyMall might be going to the big mall in the sky

The company behind SkyMall is declaring bankruptcy and seeking to sell the iconic in-flight catalogue.

Xhibit Corp., which owned SkyMall as well as a series of other subsidiaries, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to documents released on Friday.

The company suspended its retail catalogue operations on Jan. 16 and laid off 47 employees, according to the filing. The company owes creditors about $12 million.

The Phoenix-based company had sold an assortment of wares through the its magazine-style catalogue that could be found in the seatback of almost every airline flight in the U.S. SkyMall was founded in 1989, and its magazine is available to about 650 million air travelers per year.

SkyMall will go up for sale, as long as a bankruptcy court approves the company's request.

We are extremely disappointed in this result and are hopeful that SkyMall and the iconic SkyMall brand find a home to continue to operate as SkyMall has for the last 25 years, said Scott Wiley, CFO and acting CEO of Xhibit, in a press release.

If another company buys SkyMall, it could continue the existing business. However, Xhibit noted in its filing that there is a chance that the catalogue will cease to exist.

"If it appears at any point during the marketing and sale process that continued operation of the scaled-down SkyMall business operations is no longer feasible, the Debtors will take the steps necessary to terminate remaining operations," the company wrote.

SkyMall had revenue of about $33.7 million in 2013 and $15.8 million in the first nine months of 2014, according to the filing.

The company listed a variety of factors that have begun to hurt its business including e-commerce companies Amazon and eBay. SkyMall also pointed to people using smartphones and tablets on flights, in-flight Internet access, and price competition.

"With the increased use of electronic devices on planes, fewer people browsed the SkyMall inflight catalog. The substantial increase in the number of air carriers which provide internet access, and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administrations recent decision to allow the use of electronic devices during take-off and landing, resulted in additional competition from e-commerce retailers and additional competition for the attention of passengers, all of which further negatively impacted SkyMalls catalog sales," the company wrote in the filing.

The filing also notes that SkyMall had attempted to lessen its reliance on in-flight sales and looked to attract customers online. This effort, which began in early 2014, was not fully executed due to a lack of money for investment in the shift, according to the filing.

SkyMall unsuccessfully sought to raise money in late 2014 in an attempt to keep the business solvent.

"SkyMall was unable to attract the necessary working capital on terms or in amounts sufficient to meaningfully address its liquidity needs," the company wrote in the filing.

This story is developing.

Kobe Bryant to see another specialist as Lakers prepare for worst

The Lakers are preparing for the worst-case scenario of Kobe Bryant missing the rest of this season because of a torn rotator cuff, according to person familiar with the situation.

It doesn't look good, the person said in a brief interview Friday morning. An official decision, however, will wait until at least Monday.

On Friday, Bryant saw team doctor Steve Lombardo in Los Angeles and the physician reiterated that the Lakers star had a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, the Lakers said. It was decided that Bryant should get another opinion on Monday from celebrated sports-medicine specialist Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, the team said.

Yeah, I'm worried, acknowledged Lakers Coach Byron Scott at the team's shootaround Friday. I think we all are in the organization.

If Bryant is sidelined, it would mark the third consecutive time he couldnt finish a season. He was felled by a torn Achilles tendon in April 2013 and a broken bone in his knee last season.

This time, the book would close on him after he played only 35 games with averages of 22.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists, as well as unsightly 37.2% shooting accuracy.

Bryant played 37.1 minutes a game in November before becoming a part-time player last month, sitting out eight of the last 16 games so he could rest. He was also limited to 32 minutes a game.

I dont know if the wear and tear of playing so many minutes early is a result of whats happened to him right now, Scott said. I thought about that. It made me almost sick. I even apologized to him in a text yesterday. His response was, No, that wasnt it.

He, I guess, tried to make me feel better. You cant help from a coaching perspective to feel that way a little bit. Youve got to think about, man, if I wouldnt have used him so much earlier in the season, maybe this doesnt happen. But then again, maybe it happens later. I dont know.

Bryant complained about a sore shoulder about a month and a half ago, Scott said. He aggravated it on a third-quarter dunk Wednesday against New Orleans, though he seemed to blame passing the ball for his predicament. He had a career-high 17 assists last week against Cleveland.

This is what happens when I pass too much! #ShoulderShock, Bryant wrote on Twitter, adding thanks for the thoughts and prayers of well-wishers.

Scott predicted a successful return for Bryant if he has surgery and rehabilitation. Bryant, 36, makes $23.5 million this season and is under contract for $25 million next season.

I know he doesnt want to go out this way, Scott said. I think h**l rehab it, if thats the case. Then well have to wait and see.

The Lakers are 2-6 without Bryant, a lowly .250 winning percentage, and an almost equal 28.6% success rate with him (10-25).

With the loss of Bryant, Nick Young would presumably become the Lakers most capable scorer, though he is shooting only 31.5% this month.

Vince Camuto Dies: Fashion Community Reacts

Designers, retailers and fans have taken to social media to mourn the death of legendary shoe designer Vince Camuto. The fashion icon, 78, died this week. Hewas remembered by close friends and contemporaries, who praised his contributions tothe footwear industry.

Camuto, who cofounded Nine West, receivedmoving tributes from Jessica Simpson, who called him my mentor, my family, Ivy Kirzhner, Kenneth Coleand Joyce Azria. FN talked to those close to the designer as well:

Blake Nordstrom, president of Nordstrom Inc., said: We have lost a special person within the footwear industry. He was as talented a person Ive had the good fortune of getting to know. Interestingly, as each year passed he literally got more enthusiastic about the customer and the business. He loved being on the floor, talking to the customer, and because of his rich background and innate skills, he instinctively season after season came up with great product. We would talk every couple of months and I always got a huge lift from being on the receiving end of his infectious spirit for the business. Our family and team extend our thoughts and prayers to Vinces family and co-workers.

Liz Rodbell said Camuto was an example of true determination and realizing the American dream. His story of success is rooted in an eye for fashion, true leadership and great style. Vince was someone who really cared and treated people like they were a part of his extended family. I was honored to call Vince a friend, said the president of Lord & Taylor and Hudsons Bay.

I met him when I was 23 years old and an assistant buyer at Kinney Shoe, said Bob Campbell, chairman and CEO, BBC International. I admired Vince from day one. I knew him as a salesman when he and Jack Fisher sold domestic shoes way before Nine West. He was a great, great shoe guy and probably one of the best design people.

Steve Madden said: Vince always had his eye out for young talent, he was an early supporter and believer in what I was doing and it really meant a lot. He was the giant of the shoe industry, along with Jack Fisher. Those two guys were like the [John] Lennon and [Paul] McCartney of the shoe business. Weve had a very friendly rivalry; he was just amazing. The way his career had such longevity, maybe hes the greatest shoe man that ever lived. Youre never going to see his type again.

Footwear veteran Sam Edelman shared similar sentiments: Vince Camuto was a visionary and some might say the greatest shoe man of all time. Libby, our son Jesse and I have the utmost respect and admiration for all he accomplished throughout his career. Our thoughts are with Louise and the entire Camuto family.

CEO of Kurt Geiger Neil Clifford spoke similarly of the designer, saying:I am totally broken about the news. To me, Vince Camuto was the American Dream and a personal motivator for me so driven, passionate and knowledgeable. He had inexhaustible energy for his business and his people, and no matter what he achieved tomorrow, he would do it better tomorrow. Hes an irreplaceable legend.

I was in a meeting with him when I was at May Co. We were reviewing the Nine West line and there was a room full of shoes, rememberedKen Hicks, executive chairman of Foot Locker. I asked him what his 10 best shoes were. He got up and left the room. Five minutes later he came back with a handful of shoes. I said, Vince, these arent in your line. He said, no, but you asked me what I thought the best shoes were. He knew his company and he knew what would sell. He had a view of the business and a way of developing lines. He didnt just develop shoes, he developed brands and lines with staying power.

On Instagram, friends shared:

@andrew_marc On behalf of the Andrew Marc and the GIII family, we take a moment to reflect and celebrate the life of Vince Camuto, and the everlasting impact he has made on the fashion community. May he rest in peace. #VinceCamuto #ripvince #icon #legend #fashionicon #fashion

@ivykirzhner Thank you, Vince. Thank you for believing. Thank you for all the encouragement and for blessing us with your wisdom and passion. Thank you for inspiring us to become the best we could be and for making us realize that there are no limits in what a person can achieve. I feel so honored and so blessed to have learned directly from you. High five, Jedi master. May you rest in power #VinceCamuto.

Box Opens At $20.20, A 44% Pop

BoxBox CEO Aaron LevieCloud-based enterprise storage company Box opened at $20.2o, up 44%.

Its IPO was priced at $14.

It's now up 52%, to $21.44.

It's a nice pop for a company that had a lot of negativity surrounding its IPO.

Box's revenue growth has been slowing down. In the third quarter of 2014, revenue was up 70%. But that's down from 81% in the prior quarter. And that's down from 94% in the quarter prior to that.

On the plus side, Box has gotten its sales and marketing expenses under control. Thoseexpenses were only $55 million during the quarter, less than the $57 million in revenue. Overall net loss was $45 million for the third quarter last year.

On the day before the IPO, Box got a big endorsement from Jim Cramer who argued the stock was worth buying at $18 or less.

We'll be keeping an eye on the stock all day, and will update this post.

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah Dead

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah has died, Saudi state television announced early on Friday local time.

Abdullah's designated successor is Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, his 79-year-old half-brother.

Abdullah had been in poor health in recent months. Reuters reports that the king had been admitted to a Riyadh hospital in December for medical tests. The royal court announced in January that Abdullah was suffering from pneumonia.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry listens as King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud speaks before meeting at the king's private residence June 27, 2014, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. (BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI/AFP/Getty Images)

Abdullah bin Abdulaziz is believed to have been born in 1923 or 1924 as one of 37 sons of Saudi Arabia's founder, King Abdulaziz Al Saud. Abdullahs mother was the eighth of the founders 16 wives and young Abdullah was brought up in a traditional setting, living long periods of time in the desert.

Abdullah officially came into power in 2005, after the death of his half-brother, King Fahd. However, he had been the de-facto ruler since 1995, when Fahd was incapacitated by a stroke.

The new king, Salman, is a former defense minister and governor of Riyadh. He is widely reported to be in poor health and is rumored to suffer from dementia. Last year, King Abdullah appointed his youngest surviving brother, 69-year-old Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz, as second-in-line to the throne. Salman is considered moderate and is experienced in balancing the kingdom's rapid modernization with the country's conservative power base.

In this image released by the Saudi Press Agency, Crown Prince Salman gestures during a session at the Shura Council, where he delivered an annual televised speech on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015. (AP Photo/ Saudi Press Agency)

Saudi Arabia's absolute monarchy rules over a country of vast wealth and influence. Saudi Arabia is the world's top oil exporter and has guardianship of Islams two holiest sites.

The kingdom is a key ally of the United States and has contributed to the military campaign against the Islamic State militant group.

King Abdullah's funeral will take place Friday afternoon in Riyadh, the Saudi Royal Court said. Egyptian President Abdul Fatah Khalil Al-Sisi and Jordan's King Abdullah would cut short trips to attend the funeral. President Obama expressed his condolences for the late king, saying, "I always valued King Abdullahs perspective and appreciated our genuine and warm friendship." Joe Biden was to lead a presidential delegation to Saudi Arabia in the coming days.

Oil prices surged on news of King Abdullah's death.

King Abdullah's death comes at a time of extraordinary challenges for Saudi Arabia.

Plummeting oil prices have strained the nation's domestic spending and support to foreign allies. The kingdom's regional dominance is increasingly threatened by Iran, Saudi Arabia's bitter rival. Extremist groups like al Qaeda and the Islamic State have vowed to target the kingdom.

The new king's age and reported illness raise the prospect of protracted instability. Saudi tradition passes the crown down the line of the sons of the kingdom's founder, Ibn Saud. But with the youngest son nearing 70, scores of grandchildren are now eyeing power. Meanwhile, Saudi activists fear that political uncertainty in the kingdom could further undermine the country's dismal human rights record.

Hollywood's Streaming Nemesis Popcorn Time Gets A VPN, But You'll Have To ...

Christmas is a time for family, which by extension makes it a period for sitting back and watching a lot of movies and TV. Maybe thats why Sony released The Interview on Christmas Day. That controversial flick will set you back $6 to rent or $12 to buy (unless you join the legions torrenting it), but the folks at Popcorn Time believe you should be able to watch what you like for free and now theyve added a VPN to the streaming service which isHollywoods worstnightmare.

Popcorn Time, for those whoarent aware, is a servicethat lets you streama tonne of top films and TV shows to your computer for free. It uses unlicensed torrents on the internet forcontent, which naturallyraises a gamut of legal issues. The original service closed down earlier this year in response to those questions, but a number of anonymous groups resurrected theproject, the most notable of which is probablyPopcorntime.io, whichadded an optional VPN to itsdesktop service today.

VPNs, which essentially route a devices internet through a different country, are seen as an important addition to Popcorn Time. Some usersin Germany were fined for using Popcorn Time earlier this year, so a VPN could help movie fans avoid repercussions for their borderline-legal viewing activity which we at TechCrunch do not condone, by the way.

Weve seen VPNs in Popcorn Time before another groupadded a free one to its service in Junebut Popcorntime.ios promises to be more robustsinceit isrun by VPN.ht.

Mega caveat though, users will have to pay for it.

VPN.ht is priced at $4.99 per month, butPopcorntime.io users can get it for $1 for the first month after which they can cancel. Alternatively they can pay $3.99 per month on a yearly deal.

Currently in Alpha, the addition is all well and good, but we cant help thinking that there are some issues. The cost of free is a primary appeal ofPopcorn Time, thus it is unclearwhethermany users willpony up $30-plus for a VPN service, even though itmay be beneficial to them.

Thoselikely to use VPNs have probably already bought them.Anecdotally, folks shopping for a VPN tend to take their time and weigh up their options from the crowded field. Integrating with Popcorn Time may well giveVPN.ht an initial sales boost, but Im not sure it will make a sizable difference to the service or Popcorn Times userbase in the long-term.

A freemium option offeringa free first month of use or a limited monthly servicelike Tunnelbear would have been amore impactingaddition for both sides.

VPN.ht does support Bitcoin and a range of payment options, but the fact remains that asking peopleto get their credit cards out even just for a few dollars is enough of barrier to deter many.

Beyond the VPN, Popcorntime.io is also promising to revamp its existing Android app withall kinds of amazing features soon. Youll wantto keep an eye on the project if that sets your Christmas bells aringing.
