Caitlyn Jenner Covers Sports Illustrated, Talks Manhood and Sports

Caitlyn Jenner is the first o trans person to grace the cover ofSports Illustrated, revisiting

The transgender reality TV star and former athlete first graced the cover of Sports Illustrated after taking home the gold medal for the decathlon, a combined event involving 10 individual track and field events. Jenner, whobecame one of the first faces on Wheaties boxes, raked in sponsorships and interviews aplenty.

But her latest cover for the sports magazine.Since announcing her transition, Jenner has been shedding light on the trans community and starting conversations about a group too often excluded from the limelight.

Since her Vanity Fair coverin July, Jenner has gone on to film a reality series documenting her transition called I Am Cait and startedwriting a book with Friday Night Lightsauthor Buzz Bissinger. She has given speeches about being both a conservative Republican and a trans woman, including one while accepting the 2015 Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs.

Now perhaps best known for her role on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Jennerhas received both tremendous support and widespread criticism since publicly transitioning some her bravery in coming out later in life, while others have suggested she is only transitioningfor publicity. Some have called into question Jenner"s conservative values as she"s become more involved in the trans community.

But whatever the opinion about Jenner specifically, the SI cover can be seen as a noteworthy moment for the trans community and its fight for awareness.

Caitlyn Jenner "Sports Illustrated" Cover Celebrates "40 Years After Gold"

CAITLYN JENNER TO POSE NUDE FOR SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

Caitlyn Jenner is gracing the front page of yet another magazine. Sports Illustrated will be featuring Caitlyn Jenner on the June 8 cover in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Jenners 1976 Olympic gold medal win. Associated Press named Jenner 1976 Male Athlete of the Year following the Olympic win.

Caitlyns story is, of course, unique in that she transformed from the famous Bruce Jenner last year into the current Caitlyn Jenner and is, if possible, even more famous than before. Even before that, she led a very interesting life as the stepfather to the ultra popular Kardashians and husband to Kris Jenner. Sports Illustrated wants to celebrate her achievements, not only from the Montreal Olympic Games, but for everything Caitlyn has achieved in the last 40 years, and most notably in the last 12 months, reports People magazine.

Chris Stone, Managing Editor of Sports Illustrated, says the rumors running rampant that Caitlyn Jenner will pose n**e, wrapped in an American flag, are absolutely untrue. While shots were taken with the American flag, Caitlyn was not n**e in any of these photos, and the cover photo was not chosen from those pictures.

We go into these shoots with an open mind and allow our photographers to explore these stories. Forty years ago, Caitlyn Jenner offered one of the great athletic feats in modern era. We needed an image that connects both who Caitlyn Jenner is now and what she accomplished 40 years ago as Bruce Jenner, and the image that you see on the cover next week reflects that.

According to the Mercury News, Paul Fichtenbaum, the group editor for Sports Illustrated, says their desire is to honor Caitlyn Jenner for her achievements, both past and present.

We are excited to bring a fresh perspective to one of the greatest athletic performances of all-time. Obviously, so much has transpired since the 76 Olympic games weve got multi-dimensional content that fans will enjoy across any platform they choose.

The digital documentary will be available to stream at no charge on the Sports Illustrated website, beginning on June 6.

NBC News reports that in the documentary, Jenner is filmed making stops from her Olympic days. Some of these sites include special places such as the University of Oregon, where she qualified for the 1972 Olympics, and San Jose City College, the spot where her 1976 Olympic training took place.

Caitlyn Jenner has come a long way in the past year. A related report by the Inquisitr notes that in the year since her reveal as Caitlyn on the Vanity Fair cover, she has no regrets. In fact, she calls it the best year of my life.

It appears that Caitlyn Jenner, though always famous and popular with fans both from the Olympic days and the Keeping Up With the Kardashians times, has finally become her own fan. Now that she is living life as she sees fit, she is happier than ever.
