Calabasas fire burns 200 acres, evacuations ordered

Hundreds of firefighters are on the ground and three helicopters are in the air, battling a a blaze that erupted near Calabasas High School late Saturday afternoon. The Old Fire, which is burning at Mulholland Highway near Old Topanga Canyon Road,has charred approximately 200 acres.

The fire beganshortly after 4 p.m. whena vehicle slammed into a pole and toppled multiple power lines, Melanie Flores, a Los Angeles County Fire Department supervisor,told KTLA.The fire then raced up a nearby hillside.

The fireremains completely uncontained.TheL.A. County Fire Department is urging residents who live within 2 miles of Calabasas High to evacuate the area.

Officials are telling residents who have fled their homes to head to Agoura Hills High School located at 28545 W. Driver Ave. Animals can be taken to Pierce College in Woodland Hills.

It has been a busy day for fire crews in Southern California. In addition to the Old Fire, the 2-acre Valley Circle Firebroke out and was extinguished in West Hills. Crews also battled the Temecula Fire, which snarled traffic on the southbound 15 freeway.
