Police Respond to Shooting Incident in Downtown Austin, Texas
At least one person is dead and another four injured in a shooting early Sunday morning in downtown Austin.
The shooter was still at large, Austin police said at a press conference just before 5 a.m. central time.
Police Chief of Staff Brian Manley said the shooting was reported at 2:17 a.m. on East Sixth Street, the heart of the citys downtown bar and music scene. The shooter reportedly fired into crowd, killing a woman in her 20s. Four other women were injured, and they are all expected to survive, Manly said.
A second shooting occurred nearby at 2:24 a.m. on Trinity Street, but police said the two shootings were not related. No one was injured in that shooting, and that shooter is in custody.
Although there were early reports of an active shooter situation, Manley said the two incidents are not related.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene to the Austin American-Statesman. There were just tons of people on Sixth Street and I see all of them jump toward the ground, Sam Vedamanikam told the Austin American-Statesman.
