Facebook Declares the Philippines at War

In an attempt to celebrate Independence Day in the Philippines, Facebook inadvertently suggested the country was in a state of war. The graphic presented to users had the flags colors reversed, with red on top and blue on the bottom.

Philippine law states that the flag should only be displayed in this way when the country is at war. Filipinos were quick to comment on the issue.

Facebook says we"re at war. Happy Independence Day, Philippines. May we truly be free. #Kalayaan2016 o #Kasarinlan pic.twitter.com/SktzRNSJMj

Facebook apologized to The Philippine Star regarding the error.

This was unintentional, and were sorry. We care deeply about the community in the Philippines and, in an attempt to connect people on Independence Day, we made a mistake. Facebook

Siri Adds Search for SyFy, Bravo & More

Just ahead of the WWDC 2016 keynote, Apple has increased the number of TV and movie services that can be searched by Siri on your Apple TV. Now included is SyFy, E!, Bravo, and USA.

Here is the full selection of movie and TV services now covered by Apple TV search:

  • United States: Movies and TV shows in iTunes, Bravo, CBS, Disney Channel, Disney Jr, Disney XD, E!, FOXNOW, FXNOW, HBO GO, HBO NOW, Hulu, Nat Geo TV, NBC, Netflix, PBS, PBS Kids, SHOWTIME, SHOWTIME Anytime, Starz, Syfy, USA, Watch ABC
  • Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and United Kingdom: Movies and TV shows in iTunes, Netflix
  • Other countries and regions: Movies in iTunes

The timing of this move, along with the recent announcement of opening up Siri to third party apps, shows that Apple wants Siri to take a central role in all of your dealings with Apple products. Its expected that Siri will soon be able to order an Uber ride or a pizza, just as weve seen from its competitor Amazon Alexa.

Well see later today at WWDC 2016 what else Apple has in mind for Siri.

Google Tango Will Map Inside Buildings

What if Google Maps could show you exactly where you were inside a huge airport such as Heathrow? Currently, Google Maps shows you the building outlines and a few noted businesses within, but nothing about where the baggage terminals are or anything else. Google plans to fix this.

Google Tango is a project to map the interior of the worlds buildings, and Google already has a few official partners ready to upload their maps soon. Public buildings and retail stores are obvious targets for this project, but Google also has plans to map the shelves and products on them.

However, the technology to map and upload building interiors will soon be in the hands of gadget-lovers everywhere.

The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro was recently unveiled, and it contains the technology required to map buildings for Google Tango. With this device in your hands, you can make detailed building maps and then choose to upload them as you wish.
