Atlanta Jazz Festival 2016 (Piedmont Park )
The Atlanta BeltLine continues to attract new development. The latest project on the drawing board is a four-acre project next to Piedmont Park.
Atlanta-based Fuqua Development is looking to build a project along Monroe Drive near 10th Street. According to this weeks Atlanta Business Chronicle, the development would include apartments, townhomes and a boutique hotel. Developers are also considering including a natural foods grocery store and chef-inspired restaurants next to Park Tavern restaurant overlooking Piedmont Park and the BeltLines Eastside Trail.
City officials have eyed some of the land for redevelopment for a while. A littlemore than a year ago, Atlanta BeltLine Inc. and the citys economic development armInvest Atlanta issued a request for proposals for the redevelopment of 1.7 acres nextto Park Tavern and sought a best in class mixed-use project with at least 20 percentaffordable housing. The site owned by Invest Atlanta could now become part of Fuquas project if the development team can acquire it.
The development has the early support of Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall.
Hall believes the project has potential to become part of a larger transit-orientedredevelopment around Monroe Drive and 10th Street, often choked with traffic andswarmed by park-goers. In coming years, city officials look to add streetcar lines andstops along the BeltLine.
