Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick called for the resignation of Fort Worth Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Kent Scribner on Monday over new guidelines outlining bathroom use.

The new policy announced last month requires school officials to allow transgender students access to bathrooms consistent with the gender identity that each student consistently and uniformly assert, according to the Star-Telegram.

Transgender students are allowed to use the s*x of the bathroom they identify with when no other students are present, according to the guidelines.

In an interview with News 8, Patrick called for the resignation of Dr. Scribner. "I"m asking him and those three members of his executive team, I"m calling for their resignation. We want a 15-year-old boy full of vivid vigor that every 15-year-old boy has walking into the girls bathroom?" said Patrick.. "The superintendent is so irresponsible to do this that he needs to step down." the Lt. Governor went on to say.

In an interview with News 8"s Charlotte Huffman, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick called for the resignation of Fort Worth Independent School District Superintendent Dr. KentScribneron Monday over new guidelines outlining bathroom use.

Patrick, who has voiced support for a statewide so-called bathroom bill, wrote in a release Monday: After less than a year as superintendent, Dr. Scribner has lost his focus and thereby his ability to lead the Fort Worth ISD. He has placed his own personal agenda ahead of the more than 86,000 students attending 146 schools in the district by unilaterally adopting Transgender Student Guidelines.

Dr. Ann Sutherland, a board member, said she is getting a barrage of complaints from parents that they weren"t allowed to publicly comment on the issue.

"There have been dozens of anti and very angry responses from parents," says Sutherland. "This came out of the blue. It wasn"t announced on an agenda or anything."

News 8 recently requested an interview with the superintendent on this very issue. It was denied.

The new policy was announced by Scribner at an April meeting, according to Sutherland.

The guidelines also call for transgender students to be allowed to play sports in the gender they identify with, after a review by the athletic director. UIL guidelines may also impact where students can play, according to the actual guideline document.

Sutherland says she is also worried about a third component, which says school counselors may only discuss issues with a transgender student"s parent if it"s "on a need-to-know basis or as the student directs."

A big crowd is expected at Tuesday night"s regularly scheduled board meeting, where people can voice their support or displeasure during public comment.

Fort Worth ISD Board President Jacinto "Cinto" Ramos, Jr. released a statement Monday evening: "We have enourmous confidence in Superintendent Kent P. Scribner, his team, and our Board. We are focused on creating a strong, safe and productive learning environment for all students."

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced he plans to attend Tuesday night"s Fort Worth ISDmeeting and will address the media.
