With the arrival of Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe faithful Catholics are preparing to honor and celebrate the Virgin of Guadalupe. Thousands of pilgrims will journey from all over Mexico to pay homage and respect to the celebrated image of the Virgin Mary which is housed in the Basilica of Our Lady Guadalupe in Mexico City, the basilica is the most visited Catholic site in the world, and the third-most visited sacred site in the world. The celebration includes traditional music and songs dedicated to the Virgin, pilgrims bring gifts with many of the devoted completing the long journey by walking barefoot or even crawling on the stone streets that lead up to the basilica. Once there, the faithful will ask for a miracle, or thank the Virgin for fulfilling a request. Mexico's patron saint, Virgin of Guadalupe, is honored on December 12th each year.
