Nike Golf Tour Van 2016 - Rob Burbick equipment talk
Nike"s golfers are hitting a dry spell and the athletic apparel brand needs a win.
While it"s no curse of the Bambino, a Nike golfer hasn"t won a major golf tournament in the prior eight championships, ESPN Sports business reporter Darren Rovell noted on Twitter on Monday.
That makes this the longest drought for Nike"s golf roster since 2004.
Nike built its modern golf business on Tiger Wood"s success, signing the young superstar in 1996, when he was just 20. Wood"s Nike shirts became iconic, eventually spawning Nike"s Tiger Woods apparel collection.
With Woods, Nike had made its name synonymous with golf superstardom. Now, the brand is struggling to find a new savior and avoid becoming seen as a golf course curse.
Tiger Woods fall from grace began with a s*x scandal in 2009. While his comeback has been eagerly awaited in the last seven years, it has never come to fruition.
Throughout all of his struggles, Woods has stayed faithful to Nike, tweeting his support of the company in May.
With Woods unable to put Nike on the leaderboard, the sports apparel company has looked elsewhere for big names for its golf business.
Rory McIlroy seemed like the brand"s savior, with Bloomberg writing an article headlined "Rory McIlroy Helps Nike Keep Golf Alive After Tiger" in August 2014. McIlroy had recently become one of three golfers to win three majors by age 25, when he won the 2014 Open Championship in July.
"Rorys performance this summer has been electrifying," Nike golf president Cindy Davis wrote Bloomberg in an email at the time. "Nike Golf has a strong stable of global athletes including two extraordinary talents in Tiger and Rory. They are the two dominant players in golf who create the most energy around our sport."

Now, however, world no. 4McIlroy is struggling himself.
"What has gone wrong with Rory McIlroy and what does he need?" Philip Reid asked in The Irish Times, after the golfer missed the halfway cut at the US PGA Championship in July.
Nike has attempted to build out its golfer roster, announcing that 14 new golfers signed to the brand in January, including Brooks Koepka who tied for 4th in the PGA Championship despite an ankle injury. However, in July, Charl Schwartzel who had beenwith Nike since 2008 made the switch to PXG, a golf equipment company founded by GoDaddy founder Bob Parson in 2014.
Ultimately, Nike"s currentroster of golfershasn"t been ableto get a win in two years and the apparel company needs a win.
World no. 3 golfer Jordan Spieth adds legitimacy to Under Armour"s golf business.Christian Petersen/Getty Images
As Under Armour is increasingly competing for Nike"s customers, the company is moving into the golf business. The rising sports apparel and footwear company introduced itsfirst line of golf shoes in March, part of a more subtle and nuanced strategy for entering the golf business than Nike"s flashy, superstar-centric approach.
"The golf consumer can smell a rat," Ryan Kuehl, Under Armour"s vice president for sports marketing and sponsorships, told Business Insider in March. "We"ve got to talk like a golf brand. We"ve got to act like a golf brand. We"ve got to behave like a golf brand. And we have to build products like a golf brand for us to compete."
Nike can get potentially draw notoriously loyal golf consumers away from established golf brands, if the company can produce the results. However, with the current lack of champions, the shortcomings of Nike"sstrategy of relying on a handful of superstars is becoming apparent.
Right now, it"s looking like Nike"s golf business needs to breaka curse andnot just when it comes to winning championships.

Suicide Squad, Nine Lives, Jason Bourne | Weekend Ticket
Cheryl Hines was already a pro at handling animals going into the filming of Nine Lives, out Friday.
The Curb Your Enthusiasm star plays the ex-wife to Kevin Spaceys character, Tom, who winds up trapped inside the body of a cat he buys for his daughter (Malina Weissman). Co-stars include Christopher Walken as a mysterious pet-shop owner, Jennifer Garner as Toms current wife and Toronto native Robbie Amell as Toms son.
Hines felt right at home with the star feline: Growing up in Florida, her family had as many as 17 outdoor cats at a time in their suburban backyard playhouse.
There were times when we would have to put ribbons around the kittens necks and then put them in a wagon and take them around the neighbourhood to try to get rid of the kittens, she says.
Really, looking back on it, the neighbours couldnt have loved it.
These days, Hines doesnt have cats but she does have other animals at home, two dogs, including a puppy, an emu and five tortoises.
She says her daughter and her husband, environmental activist and author Robert Kennedy Jr., are huge animal lovers.
The emu lives outdoors.
Although our bigger dog knows how to open the back door, Hines says. So he opens the sliding-glass door and then the emu likes to come inside.
Its just a circus at my house.
As for the blue-eyed furball in Nine Lives, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld of the Men in Black films, Hines reveals there were actually a few of them.
One of them his fur wasnt quite as full as the other ones, so they had a little fur collar that they would put on him. So he had to wear a weave, she says with a laugh.
I imagined it like a giant scrunchie a very soft, fluffy scrunchie.
Hines says she was attracted to the project because shes a huge fan of Sonnenfelds work.
She was also pleased to take on a project she can enjoy with her 12-year-old daughter.
When she saw this film, she said, Why am I not playing your daughter? says Hines. I said, Oh, I didnt know you were an actress. She said, I could do that, I could play that part.
I said, I think its slightly more complicated than you think it is.
She hasnt really been that excited about some of my past projects, adds Hines. Shes not a huge Curb Your Enthusiasm fan but she did like Suburgatory.
Speaking of Curb, HBO has said the show will return in 2017, six years after it last aired.
Hines, who plays the wife of a curmudgeonly Larry David, says the two have exchanged text messages about it.
I said, Am I going to be in the next season? and he said, Uh, yeah, if youre not too busy, she says. It was a very vague response but I will take that as a yes. I would love to do it.
And what does a text from Larry David look like?
Very short, says Hines.
There are no LOLs coming from Larry David. Its usually one word: Yes, No, Stop bothering me.
The biggest challenge with returning to Curb is trying to fit it in with everyones schedules, says Hines.
For her, that means trying to juggle it with her upcoming new live-action/animated sitcom Son of Zorn, in which she plays the ex-wife of Jason Sudeikiss cartoon character.
Hines says she has to act opposite actor Dan Lippert, who wears a muscle suit and stands in for Zorn.
He rehearses with us and then when it comes time to shoot, he steps out and then we have to just talk to the wall. Its weird, says Hines.
You dont get a lot of feedback, so you have to just imagine what Zorn would say and how he would react, and then I have to react to how I think he would react. Its a little trippy.

Orlando Bloom Photographed Fully Nude With Katy Perry
Orlando Bloom and Katy Perrys couples getaway to Italy has the internet heating up. The A-list couple was photographed gallivanting on the beach, kissing and putting on sunscreen together all the standard cute-couple PDA but Orlando chose to bare all.
The New York Daily News published the exclusive (though censored) n**e photos on Tuesday of a n***d Bloom paddleboarding behind Perry, and the photos immediately went viral.
Though leaving little left to the imagination, the censored snaps were clearly not enough for the insatiable masses taking Twitter by storm, calling for uncensored versions almost as soon as the Daily News pics were published. The ravenous fans had their prayers answered this morning as uncensored versions (inevitably) leaked.
An invasion of privacy, perhaps? But the Twitterverse has no qualms about it.
Hope Solo Gets Taunted By Thousands Screaming "Zika!" at Olympic Match In Rio
BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil -- Hope Solo wasn"t bothered by the chanting.
The veteran USA goalie was teased by fans chanting "Zika, Zika" at her as the U.S. women"s soccer team defeated New Zealand in its Olympic debut on Wednesday.
The crowd of nearly 10,000 fans at the 60,000-capacity Mineirao Stadium jeered the goalkeeper with references to the virus that has scared many athletes ahead of the Rio Games.
"I"m glad the fans had fun," Solo said. "And if they had fun at my expense, more power to them."
Solo upset some Brazilians before coming to the Olympics by tweeting a photo of herself wearing a hat with mosquito netting. She also posted a photo of dozens of packs of mosquito repellent that she was packing for her trip to Brazil.
She made amends a few days before the games, blaming the American media for spreading fear about Zika and other problems ahead of the Rio Games. She said the media was being "really tough on people of Brazil."
The veteran goalkeeper said she didn"t realize during the game that the fans were chanting "Zika," and thought they were only yelling a common slur that local clubs sometimes use against goalkeepers at goal kicks.
Some of the fans were indeed yelling the slur early in the game, but later the majority of the crowd started with the "Zika" chant, which was also repeated after the final whistle.
"That"s something hopefully they will put behind them and realize that Hope has apologized to the Brazilian people," U.S. coach Jill Ellis said of the fans. "Sometimes mistakes are made. We are used to getting booed in other countries, so that part of it is not foreign. I hope the Brazilian people appreciate what we are trying to do with the ball and move past that."

Drake Allegedly Ready if Eminem Decides to Diss Him.. Reportedly says "I Got Something for him too". Following rumors of an Eminem Drake diss, we revisit their 2009 collaboration.
Things have changed a lot since 2009. The release of "Forever," a crew track featuring Drake, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and Eminem, was the peak of hashtag rap, a trend where rappers ditched the "like" or "as" in their similes and just dropped the punchline, much like a hashtag for each individual bar. Drake was the main abuser of the style, but he credits Big Sean"s "Supa Dupa Flow" with inventing it. Drizzy"s verse is defined by this style, while Lil Wayne and Kanye go a bit looser with their 16s, and Eminem introduces a blindingly fast double-time, something he would turn to more on his subsequent work.
Yesterday, a rumor about Eminem possibly recording a Drake diss track made the rounds, and it brought this collaboration to mind. Who"s got the best verse on this track?
