Ex-Fox News host Gretchen Carlson sues CEO Roger Ailes claiming sexual harassment
Fox News chairman Roger Ailes is going on the offensive.
The media big fired back Wednesday night at former employee Gretchen Carlson"s accusations that he made repeated sexual advances towards her.
"Gretchen Carlson"s allegations are false. This is a retaliatory suit for the network"s decision not to renew her contract, which was due to the fact that her disappointingly low ratings were dragging down the afternoon lineup," Ailes said in a statement hours the lawsuit was filed in New Jersey Superior Court Wednesday.
Parent company 21st Century Fox, however, announced Wednesday night that it would conduct an internal probe into Carlson"s claims against the CEO and "Fox & Friends" co-host Steve Doocy.
s*x harass suit against Fox News boss rips other female hosts
Though Doocy was not named as a defendant, the suit accuses the conservative cad of having "created a hostile work environment by regularly treating (Carlson) in a sexist and condescending way" during their stint together on the controversial morning show.
"The Company has seen the allegations against Mr. Ailes and Mr. Doocy," a rep for Fox said in a statement.
"We take these matters seriously. While we have full confidence in Mr. Ailes and Mr. Doocy, who have served the company brilliantly for over two decades, we have commenced an internal review of the matter."
Carlson is accusing Ailes of terminating her after 11 years at the network because she refused to sleep with him. The "Real Story with Gretchen Carlson" host"s contract was allowed to expire on June 23.
Gretchen Carlson files sexual harassment suit against Roger Ailes
Carlson claims that a pattern of sexual harassment in the newsroom over several years culminated in a September meeting in which Ailes propositioned her.
"I think you and I should have had a sexual relationship a long time ago and then you"d be good and better and I"d be good and better," the complaint accuses Ailes, 76, of telling the former Miss America last September.
"Sometimes problems are easier to solve (that way)."
Carlsons lawyer, Nancy Erika Smith, told CNN Money that at least ten other women have contacted her firm to give their own accounts about mistreatment under Ailes leadership.
But Ailes disputes those claims.
"When Fox News did not commence any negotiations to renew her contract, Ms. Carlson became aware that her career with the network was likely over and conveniently began to pursue a lawsuit," Ailes said in his statement. "Ironically, Fox News provided her with more on-air opportunities over her 11 year tenure than any other employer in the industry, for which she thanked me in her recent book. This defamatory lawsuit is not only offensive, it is wholly without merit and will be defended vigorously."
Carlson"s legal team, though, points to a rise of 33% in her viewership this before her firing, making it the No. 1 rated cable news show in its time slot.
"We challenge him to deny, under oath, that he made the statements attributed to him in the Complaint," Smith and co-attorney Martin Hyman said in a joint statement.
They also threw the book at Ailes, saying the overbearing boss reviewed everything his employees said to the press or published.
"Gretchen was once chastised for answering a question from a hometown newspaper about her favorite Minnesota State Fair food," the lawyers said. "In her book Gretchen told her story while trying to keep her job - knowing that Ailes had to approve what she said."

What"s gone wrong with referees at the European Championship?
Well, nothing. In fact, with just three games to play, everything"s going right.
The referees" performances in the 48 games played so far in France have received top marks.
Soccer pundits have been forced to describe the action rather than berating the man in the middle and his assistants.
And there have been so many top performances by referees that UEFA will struggle to select the man to take charge of Sunday"s final in Paris.
Will it be England"s Mark Clattenburg, Germany"s Felix Brych or Hungary"s Viktor Kassai, all of whom have turned in impressive performances?
"Mark Clattenburg must have a great chance of that huge honor of taking the Champions League final and a major international final in the same season, now that the rules allow you to do so," said former FIFA referee Kim Milton Nielsen, writing on the "You are the Ref" refereeing website.
Clattenburg, who has not officiated since the round of 16, may fall victim to footballing politics, however, as might Brych. The German will not get the prestigious appointment if his country qualifies for the final, and Clattenburg, an Englishman, may endure the same fate ifWales a close neighbor to England beatsPortugalto make the final.
Much of the credit for the improvement in standards has been given to Italian Pierluigi Collina, now in charge of UEFA referees. He is better known for being the best referee of his generation, using charisma rather than yellow and red cards to control games, and has introduced a series of measures to help develop elite match officials.

Everyone in the players area was cheering on Roger Federer when the king of Centre Court mounted his regal comeback from two sets down against Marin Cilic on Wednesday. Everyone, that is, apart from Milos Raonic. He refused to be swept away by the romance of Federers victory and it was not out of support for Cilic, even though he has a closer relationship with the Croat.
Instead Raonic watched the television in a transfixed state, studying the match, the trends, searching for any potential signs of weakness that he can exploit when he meets Federer in a repeat of their 2014 semi-final, which the Swiss won in three routine sets.

I was just seeing where guys are going on the important moments, what patterns to pick up, so you can try to cover up some things in those moments, said the sixth seed. As the man with one of the biggest serves in the game, he presumably would have noted how Federer slowly took control of the contest.
Federer struggled to read Cilics serve at first, making 20 out of 36 returns in the first set and 11 out of 26 in the second. In the fifth set, however, his return stats were up to 72% and Federer went from losing the majority of the rallies between zero and four shots in the first two sets to dominating them in the final three.
Raonic, who hit his 114th ace of the tournament in his quarter-final win over Sam Querrey, loves to kill off a point quickly. Serve and volley is a tricky tactic to pull off against Federer, though. Raonic will need variety and durability, while the quality of his returns will be crucial. Federer has been broken three times in five matches.
Federer has beaten Raonic twice on grass, the last time at Wimbledon in 2014 in what was the Canadians first appearance in the last four. Two years have passed since I played him here in the semi-finals. Im happy that I have another shot at him, said the Canadian.
The 25-year-old has matured since surrendering to Federer two years ago and though he has lost nine of their 11 matches, he won their Brisbane final in January.
Raonic impressed in his defeat to Andy Murray in their Australian Open semi-final later that month. He rarely betrays any emotion on the court, either positive or negative.
Yet Raonic is a deep thinker whose willingness to analyse his game can sometimes be detrimental. His coach, Carlos Moy, has encouraged him to loosen up a little, along with helping him to hone his skills at the net. There was a glimpse of his calm when he recovered from two sets down against David Goffin in the fourth round.
The other high-profile member in Raonics team is John McEnroe, who was brought in at the start of the grass season. It has been an encouraging start, with Raonic close to beating Murray in their Queens final.
It escaped no ones attention that McEnroe commentated on Federers match against Cilic for ESPN. You read statistics quite a bit, Raonic said. Ill look through it a little bit. Carlos will look through it a lot. John called the entire match. Im sure hes going to have plenty of things to say.
Azealia Banks Admits To Skin Bleaching @Hodgetwins Azealia Banks wants her fans to see the light.
The singer, rapper and provocateur took to Facebook Live recently for an off-the-cuff, 21-minute conversation while visiting San Francisco. The most interesting chunk of it is a 7-minute stretch where the New York native defends her use of skin bleaching creams.
"What"s the difference between getting a nose job and changing your skin color?" Azealia Banks asked, referring to the process as a "body modification" no different than wearing a weave.
Banks is no stranger to controversy. Already in 2016, she"s been suspended from Twitter for calling pop star Zayn Malik a "curry scented b***h." She"s also been repeatedly criticized for using the word "f****t," gotten into a beef with 14-year-old Disney star Skai Jackson, and taken Beyonc to task for what she called the "heartbroken black female" narrative of Lemonade.
But while those antics have outraged fans, her honest discussions about bleaching her skin have broken fans" hearts. Some were outraged:Others felt sorry for her because she"s obviously internalized the United States" racism:
It"s not the first time Banks has spoken about lightening her skin. Earlier in 2016, she posted a message to Instagram about her plans to write an article about the "differences between skin bleaching and skin lightening."

And in a tweet that"s since been deleted, Banks hinted at the music industry pressures that made her start lightening her skin:

Congratulations, American racism. You win.

Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson walks in Lafayette Park across from the White House during an interview with AFP in Washington, DC, on May 9, 2016.
Financial executive and "The Reformed Broker" Joshua M. Brown said he believes Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson is a valid choice for the presidency, with a real chance to win.
"Gary Johnson seems like a pretty reasonable candidate," wrote Brown in a blog posted Sunday. "He"s an actually successful business man, not a TV caricature of one. He"s actually governed people."
Brown who is the CEO of Ritholtz Wealth Management and a regular trader panelist on CNBC"s "Halftime Report" wrote in his non-endorsement that Johnson has a real shot given that he is currently polling at 12 percent nationally and only needs to reach 15 percent to make it onto the presidential debate stage. That, coupled with the fact that his name will be on the ballot in all 50 states, means for Brown "He actually has a chance to win. It"s a small chance, but it"s non-zero."
"With Trump"s campaign one tweet away from complete destruction and the former First Lady facing down a possible FBI indictment, all of a sudden being a third option in a presidential race with four months to go is not such a ludicrous proposition," Brown wrote, referring to the major party candidates Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton.
In the post, Brown said Johnson could fill the desire of of those voters who want a fiscally conservative and socially liberal candidate, pointing to Johnson"s positions on cutting military spending and pro-marijuana legalization.

Rapper Azealia Banks admitted to lightening her skin and defended the process of skin-bleaching. The "212" MC, who was suspended from Twitter following her controversialremarks on race in May, took toa 21-minute Facebooklivestreamwhile riding her bike on Friday (July 1).
"I don"t really think it"s important to discuss the cultural significance of skinbleaching anymore because I think that, just as African-American people, just as black people in this world, you assimilate, and there are things you accept, not just out of necessity but things become norm because they just happen all the time," she began. "I guess people see the skin-bleaching thing as something different but I see it as another ...assimilation thing. It"s a continuation of the falsification of self that comes with being a black person in America."
Azealia Banks" Twitter Suspension May Be A Musical Blessing
Banks continued, "My personal opinion about skinlightening. I consider anything that has to do with removing layers of skin or pigment, I consider it all bleaching ...I say lightening." She explainedhow a bad diet andhormones could contribute to clogged pores and that getting a chemical peel to remove the dirt could make a person"s skin appear lighter.
The rapper also called the world of skin-bleaching a "dark world," describing the different "corrosive"ingredients that may be sold to average women to "sell a dream" versus wealthy ladies who can afford certain products. She noted, "It"s a deeper conversation into a woman"s right to choose."
Banks then asked her supporters. "To say that [skinbleaching] negates what I"ve been saying about blackness in America is ignorant and just stupid," she said. She added."Nobody was upset when I was [wearing] 30-inch weaves, tearing out my edges, and doing all types of s**t like that," she said. "You guys loved it, but what is the difference?"

Two weeks ago, Banks shared on Instagram that she was working on an article that would detail the difference between skinbleaching, skinlightening, skinbrightening and skin whitening.
