NBA Free Agency: Luol Deng signs four-year deal with Lakers

Going into this offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers had to make some moves in order to reach the salary cap floor. Because they have so many young players, overpaying for veterans was inevitable. According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, the Lakers have signed former Miami Heat forward Luol Deng to a four-year deal worth $72 million.

The move is a tad bit surprising since the Lakers drafted Brandon Ingram with the second overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft and they already have Julius Randle as well. Deng will be expected to rotate with Randle at the power forward position, spelling Ingram when necessary as well. He will bring a strong defensive presence to the Lakers, having averaged six rebounds per game last season for the Miami Heat.

During his career, he has averaged 6.2 rebounds per game, 1.0 blocks per game, 2.4 assists per game, and 15.5 points per game. His player efficiency rating (PER) suggests that he is at worst a league average player. The league average player has a PER of 15. Deng has matched that total in six of his last seven seasons, including a 15.0 PER last season. He has a career PER of 15.7.

Considering that the Lakers are all but required to overpay to get anyone decent, the Lakers did a fine job with Deng. He should serve as insurance for Randle and Ingram and both young players could learn a lot from someone like Deng.

Germany vs. Italy was like a perfectly played chess match settled by a drunken bar fight

Germany vs Italy | EURO 2016 | 2/7/16 - FIFA 16

After 120 minutes of the most calculated game of Euro 2016, Germany and Italy settled things with the most random, uncalculated ending.

A quarterfinal between Germany and Italy at Euro 2016 does not just mean a match between two giants that would be expected in a later round. It is a match that is all about the two tacticians coaching the teams: Joachim Lw and Antonio Conte, respectively.

As the two teams met in Bordeaux, the match started as expected, with the two coaches staying true to their smart reputations. Conte stuck to three-man defense that made Italy surprise quarterfinalists despite bringing a squad many considered to be one of their worst in recent memory. Lw prepared appropriately for the Italians, setting his team up in a defensive style. Julian Draxler, who was the team"s star in their Round of 16 match against Slovakia, was replaced by defender Benedikt Hwedes in an attempt to keep out the Italian attack. Germany were dealt an early blow 15 minutes in after Sami Khedira went off injured, but replacement Bastian Schweinsteiger was able to keep the structure as his coach intended.

The plan worked for more than an hour. Neither team scored, and the defenses remained tough to break. However, in the 65th minute, a breakthrough came. The play started in Germany"s defense through goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, leading for Mario Gmez to make a great pass to Jonas Hector, who got the assist on Mesut zil"s goal. After not conceding a goal during the tournament, Gianluigi Buffon had to pick the ball up out of the net for the first time.

Lw, with his team now in the lead, used his second substitution on Draxler, who came on for Gmez. Shifting his team to play in a more attacking style, the German was going for the win. Yet, as if the match had to remain as equal as possible, Jrme Boateng had his hands as far away from his body as possible and conceded a penalty after the ball hit his hand. Center back Leonardo Bonucci, solid as he was in the back for Italy during the tournament, was just as important taking his first penalty for his country and scored in the 78th minute. Neuer, just like Buffon, conceded a goal for the first time in France.

Lw and Conte were equal again, and extra time was certain for the teams. In the second half of extra time, Conte made two subs while Lw remained confident in his group on the field. First was Lorenzo Insigne in the 108th minute, who came on for der as a set of fresh legs and to close out the extra time period. The deadlock was not broken. Finally, in his last tactical act of the night, Conte brought on Simone Zaza for Giorgio Chiellini in stoppage time, clearly with the intent that he was meant for the penalty shootout.

For all the hard work the two managers did, they cancelled each other out. The only way left for the long tactical battle to end was through several strokes of luck: a penalty shootout.

If the 120-minute match was a show of smart tactical decisions, the penalty shootout was its equivalent, only in horribly taken spot kicks. The shootout went to nine rounds, and included seven misses, including Graziano Pell scuffing a shot after telling Neuer he was going for a chip.

Zaza basically undid the substitution his coach made, taking the penalty in a unique fashion that resembled the running man, only for him to miss in the most embarrassing fashion.

And so the best tactical chess match of Euro 2016 the most cerebral, considered game anyone could have imagined was settled in the most random manner of any game of the tournament, with Germany going through 6-5 on penalties.

Are Drake And Rihanna Dating? How The Two Stars Spent Their Night Together Suggests They Might Be

Drake Reveals If He"s Dating Rihanna - VIDEO

Are Drake and Rihanna dating again? They just might be! Although no one official from either camp has confirmed the news, the famous on-again-off-again couple have been awfully close as of late, which is usually a tell-tale sign that these two are digging each others vibes again.

Recently, theyve both collaborated with each other on their respective albums, and Drake has been seen on some tour dates with Rihanna, so if anything, it seems like these two are definitely in the same circle again.

It all started when Rihanna broke it off with Chris Brown after their public domestic dispute. In 2009, she was spotted kissing Drake at Lucky Strike, and the rumors took off. In 2010, Drake put his feelings on the line in the song Fireworks that alleges something went down that night between the two, even though it was nothing serious. Despite that, Drake confessed he still thought about Rihanna.

Who coulda predicted Lucky Strike would have you stuck with me? What happened between us that night, it always seems to trouble me. Ill never forget it baby, what an experience/You coulda been the one, but it wasnt that serious.

In June of that same year, Drake aired out his frustrations over the short-lived romance to the New York Times.

In the interview, he said, I was a p**n. You know what she was doing to me? She was doing exactly what Ive done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear. I was like, wow, this feels terrible.

Homeboyz Radio (@HomeboyzRadio) June 22, 2016

During that year, they collaborated on the song Whats My Name? and released the music video together, which was just as steamy as their history suggests. Around this time, Rihanna cleared up the rumors that she caused Drake heartbreak.

That was wrong; he doesnt know what hes talking about. We just became friends, and we left it at that. We get along really well.

In 2011, when they hit the stage to perform the song at the Grammys, everyone was convinced they were back on due to their sexy routine and flirty looks on stage, but months later, there were rumors that Rihanna was back with her ex Chris Brown. Although they released another song in 2012 together, titled Take Care, by then, Rihanna was officially together with Brown.

When Rihanna and Chris Brown officially split in 2013, it was Drake who she chose to party with. The two were spotted in August of 2013 after the VMAs and again in November of that same year at a Houston strip club.

In 2014, the two hung out together multiple times, but Drake told Rolling Stone that they were just friends.

Shes the ultimate fantasy. I mean, I think about it. Like, Man, that would be good. We have fun together, shes cool and sh*t. But were just friends. Thats my dog for life.

Drake eventually moved on to tennis star Serena Williams, but that didnt last for too long, as its rumored that Drake wasnt willing to commit. By the time Drake and Rihanna released their next single together, Work, Rihanna was seen out and about with actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Oh yeah yeah yeah! Details on Drake and Rihannas late night out:???? https://t.co/1FdQZdumWy pic.twitter.com/m4GbAqv2Go

E! News (@enews) June 29, 2016

This brings us to the present, where E! Online reports that Drake and Rihanna were spotted partying together for Nicole Scherzingers birthday at Tape Nightclub in London. The two apparently closed the place down, and although they werent photographed together, the outlet reports that they left close together. According to the outlet, a source told them that this relationship still isnt serious. The source said that Rihanna and Drake arent seriously dating, but they do hook up and its just for fun right now.

Only time will tell!

At 79, Richard Petty, a Bastion of Nascar, Sticks to What He Knows

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series - Full Race - Axalta "We Paint Winners" 400

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. It was a different time, Richard Petty kept saying, not nostalgically, but more in that matter-of-fact way that has made him the de facto spokesman for a sport that he once dominated like no other racecar driver before or since.

The one thing that hasnt changed is the racetrack itself, Petty said about the Daytona International Speedway, hours before Saturday nights Coke Zero 400, which Brad Keselowski won in a thrilling finish that had a tight pack of drivers jostling for position on the final lap.

As far as everything at the racetrack, around the racetrack, the people have changed, the cars have changed, the rules have changed, but the racetrack stays the same, Petty said.

As he talked, Petty poked at a birthday cake, licking frosting off his finger and flashing that famous, crooked smile beneath a bristly mustache that suspiciously showed no signs of gray. He turned 79 on Saturday, and he has seen a lot as the son of a racecar driver, as a racecar driver himself, as the father and grandfather of racecar drivers, and now as the owner of Richard Petty Motorsports.

People ask me what it feels like to be 79, he said, smiling. I dont know. Ive never been here before.

But he has been a fixture here at the Daytona International Speedway. He won his Nascar-record 200th and final race almost exactly 32 years ago, at what was then called the Firecracker 400. It was back when the race was an even more star-spangled event than it is today, when it was run on the Fourth of July, instead of on the closest Saturday.

The race also used to start at 10 a.m., instead of at night, which meant that it had almost always ended before the Florida summer rains began, causing delays and havoc on start and finishing times.

It was more like a family vacation back then, Petty said as a steady downpour tap-danced on an overhead awning near the garage area of the speedways infield. Wed get done racing and be at the beach by 1:30.

He motioned overhead with a frosting-coated finger.

And we didnt have to deal with this, he said.

Last year, because of its evening start and ongoing rain delays, the race did not end until 2:40 a.m. Hopefully, that wont happen again, Petty said, explaining how over the years the race had capitulated to the whims and wishes of television, its name shifting from the Medal of Freedom 400 to the Firecracker 400 to the Fill-In-Sponsors-Name-Here 400.

But the track has remained the same, and on Saturday night, after the skies had cleared and the lights had come on, Petty and race fans were treated to a vintage race at Daytona, featuring hard driving and a pileup that affected 22 cars.

For a while, it seemed as if there would not be any incident on the track. But on Lap 90, a little more than halfway into the race, Jamie McMurray moved low into Kyle Larson at the end of the front stretch. He was then bumped by Jimmie Johnson. What followed was 22 cars bumping and scraping, piling and plowing into one another.

In all, the race had 27 lead changes featuring 13 drivers before an ecstatic Keselowski took the checkered flag. It was his first win at Daytona, and he certainly earned it, having led for a race-high 115 of 161 laps.

I dont care if it isnt the 500, were still in victory lane, Keselowski said. This is huge. I love this place.

One of the drivers who was taken out by the 22-car pileup was Dale Earnhardt Jr., the defending Coke Zero champion, who has now crashed in all three restrictor-plate races this year.

Not only was Earnhardt the defending champion, but this was also the 15-year anniversary of perhaps the most emotionally charged race at the track. On Feb. 22, 2001, his father, Dale Earnhardt, died in a crash on the final turn of the final lap at the Daytona 500. Less than five months later, in the first race at the speedway since that event, the younger Earnhardt won what was then called the Pepsi 400.

Before that, probably the most memorable finish at the race came in 1984. It was on the Fourth of July that year when Ronald Reagan became the first sitting president to announce, Start your engines from Air Force One, doing so from a telephone as his plane flew into a nearby airport.

Petty won on that day, his 200th and, as it turned out, final Nascar victory.

It was a long time ago, but it was the biggest thing that happened to us, Petty said. Winning and then getting to meet the president, it was the pinnacle of my career.

Thirty-two years later, Keselowski held similar feelings about his victory.

Tour de France 2016 Stage 2 Preview

Custom, New & Secret Bikes At The Tour De France 2016

What to ExpectStage 1 was not an easy start to the Tour as technical roads, wind, and crashes like Alberto Contador"s left many riders feeling as if they"d finished their firstweek of the Tournot the first day. With another technical parcours, more wind, and several uncategorized climbs, Stage 2 offers no respite.

Several jerseys could change hands tomorrow. Bora-Argons Paul Voss will need to go on the attack again if he wants to protect his lead in the Tours King of the Mountains competition. Each of the three Category 4 climbs at the beginning of the stage offers one point each; if Voss wins one of these, h**l wear the polka-dot jersey for another day no matter who wins the two points available atop the Category 3 Cte de la Glacerie. But rest assured, there will be riders hoping to take the jersey from his shoulders, so Voss and his team will need to cover the early breakaway to defend it.

Tinkoffs Peter Sagan is the top favorite for Stage 2. The climb to the finish is too hard for sprinters like Stage 1-winner Mark Cavendish, Marcel Kittel, and Andre Greipel. But Sagan, third on Stage 1, should be fine. Even if he doesnt win the stage, look for Sagan to finish (at worst) inside the top-5, which could be enoughdepending on any time gapsto give Sagan both the yellow and green jerseys.

Last but certainly not least, Stage 2 matters a lot for Tinkoffs Alberto Contador. Contador managed to stick with the peloton despite his crash but adrenaline is a powerful thing; once it wears off, the pain really sets in. Reports say he suffered only bumps and scrapes, but Contador will struggle to get a good nights sleep, and h**l start Stage 2 feeling stiff and sore. His bodys ability to handle another tough day in the saddle will tell us a lot about the Spaniards ability to remain a GC contender over the coming weeks.

RELATED: Riding Through Mid-Stage Injury as a Tour de France Pro

When to Tune InThe first 80 to 90 minutes of racing should once again be aggressive as those three Category 4 climbs will encourage attacks from riders hoping to take the polka-dot jersey from Voss. The days intermediate sprint should also be heavily contested as men like Kittel, Greipel, and Cavendish have little reason to save themselves for the finish and will do their best to take maximum points in Portbail. That said, the days real excitement will come at the end of the stage. Its expected to end at about 11:22 a.m. EST, so feel free to go for a ridejust make sure youre back in time for the final 20 minutes of the stage.

Root for This Guy

EtixxQuick-Step just missed the win on Stage 1, but Frances Julian Alaphilippe is just the rider to get the team on the podiums top step after Stage 2. His name should sound familiar: He won Mays Tour of California and finished second last year. An explosive rider who does well in races finishing with short, steep climbs, this Tour rookie deserves your support during Stage 2.
