Caitlyn Jenner Covers Sports Illustrated, Talks Manhood and Sports
Caitlyn Jenner is the first o trans person to grace the cover ofSports Illustrated, revisiting
The transgender reality TV star and former athlete first graced the cover of Sports Illustrated after taking home the gold medal for the decathlon, a combined event involving 10 individual track and field events. Jenner, whobecame one of the first faces on Wheaties boxes, raked in sponsorships and interviews aplenty.
But her latest cover for the sports magazine.Since announcing her transition, Jenner has been shedding light on the trans community and starting conversations about a group too often excluded from the limelight.
Since her Vanity Fair coverin July, Jenner has gone on to film a reality series documenting her transition called I Am Cait and startedwriting a book with Friday Night Lightsauthor Buzz Bissinger. She has given speeches about being both a conservative Republican and a trans woman, including one while accepting the 2015 Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs.

Now perhaps best known for her role on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Jennerhas received both tremendous support and widespread criticism since publicly transitioning some her bravery in coming out later in life, while others have suggested she is only transitioningfor publicity. Some have called into question Jenner"s conservative values as she"s become more involved in the trans community.
But whatever the opinion about Jenner specifically, the SI cover can be seen as a noteworthy moment for the trans community and its fight for awareness.

After being disappointed Sunday night in not being named an NCAA regional host, the Coastal Carolina baseball team and its supporters gathered together Monday in anticipation to watch the full tournament selection show and learn where the Chanticleers will start what they hope is an extended postseason run.
Players, coaches, university officials and around 100 or so others packed into Handleys Pub & Grub in Carolina Forest and cheered when the ESPNU broadcast revealed the Chants will be a No. 2-seed in Raleigh, N.C., in a double-elimination regional that also includes host N.C. State, No. 3-seeded St. Marys and No. 4 Navy.
The No. 15-ranked Chants (44-15) will open the tournament Friday at 2 p.m. against St. Marys (33-23).
Im just excited to get the opportunity to play in the Raleigh regional. Obviously were disappointed that we cant host here at home, but well be ready to go up there and get after it, coach Gary Gilmore said.
Coastal Carolina, which swept the Big South regular-season and tournament titles, was hoping its No. 12 RPI and No. 7-rated non-conference strength of schedule would be enough to make it one of the 16 regional host sites for the first time since 2010. The Chants won their last 10 games and 31 of their last 37, but that momentum wasnt enough to sway the selection committee.
Five teams that finished behind the Chants in the RPI earned the right to host, including a Virginia team they beat early in the season.
By Monday, though, Gilmore said he and his team had moved on from that slight.
It was disappointing, nothing more. We have to be good people. Im disappointed only for the fact the kids had worked hard to do it and [we] very much wanted to showcase our stadium and our fans and the whole nine yards. But were okay, he said. ... Im not on the committee. Every team thats in it is deserving. I thought we were deserving as well. Its not an easy task what they do.
Said senior closer Mike Morrison: Thats out of our [control]. Were high right now, weve won 10 in a row, thats about all we can control. Regardless of where we go were going to be all right. Its honestly just exciting. We get to continue to play baseball. [For] a couple of us, we dont have much time left so to continue to play baseball is something special.
St. Marys, out of Moraga, Calif., won the West Coast Conference Championship over the weekend to earn its first ever NCAA regionals berth.
The Gaels top pitcher is 6-foot-3 junior right-hander Corbin Burnes, who boasts a 9-1 record, 2.23 earned-run average, .208 opponents batting average and 112 strikeouts (against 31 walks) in 97 innings.
Offensively they are led by sophomore Zach Kirtley (.326 batting average, 7 home runs, 43 RBIs), sophomore Joey Fiske (.310, 17 stolen bases), senior Anthony Gonsolin (.304-6-25) and senior Anthony Villa (.297-7-39).

The Chants and Gaels have never met in baseball. Coastal Carolina has played regional host N.C. State 27 times, including a 13-10 win by the Wolfpack back in February.
Gilmore only wanted to focus on his teams first obstacle, though.
We play St. Marys so Im not worried about N.C. State right now, to be honest with you, he said. If we look ahead well be in the losers bracket, I can tell you that right now. Even though theyre a West Coast team and whatever, theyll play a style [of] baseball that will really challenge us.
Overall, this marks the Chants 14th regionals appearance in the last 16 seasons. They were also a No. 2 seed last year in the College Station, Texas., regional where they went 1-2.
That was a much different team, though. By that point injuries had cost the Chants their top two starting pitchers and their power-hitting catcher.
This Coastal Carolina team comes in fully equipped with a healthy pitching staff and an offense ranked second in the NCAA Division I with 89 home runs.
Last year, that was an incredibly hard regional. All of the prognosticators said it was the toughest one in the country, and there was no doubt with the talent that [of] those four teams, Gilmore said. ... Its not like this is going to be easy, I can promise you that. But at least we match up personnel-wise with these teams probably better than what we did last year.
After all the suspense and waiting the last couple days to learn their postseason draw, the Chants are just ready to turn their focus toward their next challenge now.
A lot of predictions and stuff beforehand, but you never really know where youre going to go, senior right fielder Connor Owings said. Were heading to Raleigh with a very good N.C. State team. We got matched up with St. Marys, I dont really know much about them, but I assume theyre a very good team, so were going to get ready for them and hope for the best.
As Britain reels from the aftershock of its decision to withdraw from the European Union, Nigel Farage, one of the most vocal Brexit advocates, insulted EU officials on Tuesday by saying they were in denial and that they had "never had a proper job before."
"The reason you"re so upset, the reason you"re so angry, has been perfectly clear from all the angry exchanges this morning," he told EU leaders during an emergency meeting in Brussels.
"You, as a political project, are in denial. You are in denial that your currency is failing."
Farage"s remarks, which apparently ignored the British pound"s precipitous decline in the wake of Thursday"s referendum, drew loud jeers from members of the EU Parliament, with one of the sharpest attacks coming from European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker:
Following the emergency session, Farage took a moment to congratulate himself for his speech, further highlighting parallels between him and master self-promoter Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president.
The clashes on Tuesday come amid calls from EU officials for Britain to exit from the European Union swiftly, so as to stem any further international and economic uncertainty in the aftermath of the unprecedented vote. British Prime Minister David Cameron has insisted his successor should be in place to manage the transition when he steps down from office in October. Brexit leaders, however, have resisted, saying there was "no need for haste" after the vote.
Several Delta Air Lines customers are saluting former football player and SEC Network analyst Tim Tebow along with the Delta crew after they witnessed them running to another passenger"s aid in the middle of a flight.
This is just a week after Tebow visited his former teammate who was wounded in the Orlando shootings.

Richard Gotti told the story on his Facebook page. He was traveling from Atlanta to Phoenix when a man began having obvious heart problems.
"Then all of a sudden, I observed a guy walking down the aisle. That guy was Tim Tebow. He met with the family as they cried on his shoulder! I watched Tim pray with the entire section of the plane for this man," Gotti said on Facebook.
A flight attendant also said they witnessed Tebow leave his first class seat to run to the aid of the concerned passenger.
Another woman captured a photo of Tebow assessing the situation and posted it to Instagram:
A Delta spokesperson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that they were happy to hear their flight crew also acted in such a timely manner.

CAITLYN JENNER TO POSE NUDE FOR SPORTS ILLUSTRATED
Caitlyn Jenner is gracing the front page of yet another magazine. Sports Illustrated will be featuring Caitlyn Jenner on the June 8 cover in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Jenners 1976 Olympic gold medal win. Associated Press named Jenner 1976 Male Athlete of the Year following the Olympic win.
Caitlyns story is, of course, unique in that she transformed from the famous Bruce Jenner last year into the current Caitlyn Jenner and is, if possible, even more famous than before. Even before that, she led a very interesting life as the stepfather to the ultra popular Kardashians and husband to Kris Jenner. Sports Illustrated wants to celebrate her achievements, not only from the Montreal Olympic Games, but for everything Caitlyn has achieved in the last 40 years, and most notably in the last 12 months, reports People magazine.

Chris Stone, Managing Editor of Sports Illustrated, says the rumors running rampant that Caitlyn Jenner will pose n**e, wrapped in an American flag, are absolutely untrue. While shots were taken with the American flag, Caitlyn was not n**e in any of these photos, and the cover photo was not chosen from those pictures.
We go into these shoots with an open mind and allow our photographers to explore these stories. Forty years ago, Caitlyn Jenner offered one of the great athletic feats in modern era. We needed an image that connects both who Caitlyn Jenner is now and what she accomplished 40 years ago as Bruce Jenner, and the image that you see on the cover next week reflects that.
According to the Mercury News, Paul Fichtenbaum, the group editor for Sports Illustrated, says their desire is to honor Caitlyn Jenner for her achievements, both past and present.
We are excited to bring a fresh perspective to one of the greatest athletic performances of all-time. Obviously, so much has transpired since the 76 Olympic games weve got multi-dimensional content that fans will enjoy across any platform they choose.

The digital documentary will be available to stream at no charge on the Sports Illustrated website, beginning on June 6.
NBC News reports that in the documentary, Jenner is filmed making stops from her Olympic days. Some of these sites include special places such as the University of Oregon, where she qualified for the 1972 Olympics, and San Jose City College, the spot where her 1976 Olympic training took place.

Caitlyn Jenner has come a long way in the past year. A related report by the Inquisitr notes that in the year since her reveal as Caitlyn on the Vanity Fair cover, she has no regrets. In fact, she calls it the best year of my life.
It appears that Caitlyn Jenner, though always famous and popular with fans both from the Olympic days and the Keeping Up With the Kardashians times, has finally become her own fan. Now that she is living life as she sees fit, she is happier than ever.

Elizabeth Warren DESTROYS Donald Trump During ACS Convention
Elizabeth Warren steps onto the campaign trail in the all-important Buckeye State. Donald Trump plans his first visit in months. And Vice President Joe Biden will do more than raise money for Ted Strickland when he comes to Cleveland. Read more in Ohio Politics Roundup.
Countdown to Cleveland: Only 20 days until the Republican National Convention begins. What do locals hope visitors learn about the Forest City? The Plain Dealer"s Susan Glaser posed the question to participants in the RNC"s "Faces of Cleveland" welcome campaign.
The Warren Way: Tis the season for vice presidential chatter. And nothing quite fans the flames like an appearance with the presumptive nominee in a critical battleground state.
Such was the case Monday when Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the Massachusetts senator and a hero on the left, campaigned for the first time with Democrat Hillary Clinton in Cincinnati.
Warren reportedly is on Clinton"s shortlist. As cleveland.com"s Jeremy Pelzer writes from the Queen City, she "fulfilled a key role a Democratic running matewill have to play this year: repeatedly going on the attack against Trump. "Donald Trump says he"ll make America great again. It"s right there, stamped on the front of his goofy hat. You want to see goofy? Look at him in that hat," Warren said, referring to Trump"s repeated tweets calling her "goofy.""
Some strikes against Warren: She "doesn"t bring any demographic or generational diversity to the ticket, comes from a solidly Democratic state in presidential elections," and hasn"t been close with Clinton over the years, the team at the Cincinnati Enquirer observes.
Then there"s the bigger-picture political risk in picking Warren. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, a Republican, would pick Warren"s short-term successor. Democrats have a shot at reclaiming the Senate this fall and probably can"t afford to elevate any senator from a state where the GOP controls the replacement process. This logic also applies to Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, a progressive who under different circumstances might be the ideal choice for Clinton.
Speaking of Warren successors and the veepstakes ... Pelzer notes that Clinton offered a shout-out Monday to Richard Cordray, the former Ohio attorney general whom President Barack Obama appointed to succeed Warren as head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
There has been small but noticeable effort in recent days to promote Cordray as a vice presidential prospect. Hard to tell who, precisely, is behind it. But several Ohio Democrats are calling attention to a Minneapolis Star-Tribune op-ed, written by a law professor who is familiar with Cordray"s work in Washington. It all has the feel of a weak trial balloon.
Republicans ready to pounce: "The Republican National Committee is planning to cleave liberal voters away from Hillary Clinton as part of a campaign to counteract her forthcoming pick of a vice presidential running mate," the Huffington Post"s Sam Stein reports.
"In a detailed memo outlining its strategy to combat Clinton"s VP choice, the committee says it will frame the selection as both a cynical play to certain constituencies and as an emotional letdown for voters who backed" Sanders, the Vermont senator, in the primaries.
"Titled "Project Pander," the RNC"s strategy memo also reveals which candidates the committee views as most likely to be selected. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), HUD Secretary Julian Castro and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) occupy the top tier; Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Labor Secretary Thomas Perez and Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.) are in the second."
As for the sitting VP ... Vice President Joe Biden has added a stop to his Thursday schedule in Cleveland, cleveland.com"s Sabrina Eaton reports. Biden already had been set to attend a fundraiser for Ted Strickland, who is running to unseat Republican Sen. Rob Portman. Now Biden also will speak at the Cleveland Clinic"s Langston Hughes Center.
Long time, no see: Trump will return to Ohio tonight for the first time since the Buckeye State"s March primary. The wealthy New Yorker will hold a rally in St. Clairsville, part of the Eastern Ohio ring of white, working-class voters that could turn out big for him in the fall.
The region also is in the heart of Ohio"s coal country, a key battleground in the Senate race between Portman and Strickland. Trump"s new Ohio director, Bob Paduchik, managed Portman"s 2010 campaign and once worked for a "clean coal" organization.
Counting her Monday visit, Clinton has been in the state three times in two weeks. Trump will be back again next week for a Cincinnati fundraiser, the Enquirer"s Chrissie Thompson reports.
Long time, no see, Part II: Former President George W. Bush will headline a private fundraiser for Portman in August at Cincinnati"s Great American Ballpark, the Enquirer"s Jason Williams reports. Portman served in several high-profile roles during Bush"s administration.
More camp from the Strickland camp: Strickland"s team is out with a new web video today, part of a digital series that pokes fun at Portman"s relatively low name-recognition. About a third of respondents in a recent poll said they didn"t know enough to have an opinion of him.
"The Least Known Man in Ohio" parodies Dos Equis" "Most Interesting Man in the World" ads. "I don"t always abandon the Constitution," an actor costumed as Portman says in the latest edition. "But when I do, it"s to let Donald Trump reshape the Supreme Court for generations."
You can see the ad here.
Meanwhile ... "A conservative super PAC says it is dropping another $2.7 million on a new negative ad campaign" aimed at Strickland, cleveland.com"s Pelzer reports.
"The ad, from the Koch Brothers-funded Freedom Partners Action Fund, hits Strickland on his economic record as governor of Ohio. It includes claims ... that [Strickland] left the governor"s office with 89 cents in the state"s rainy-day fund and a $6 billion budget shortfall."
John Kasich goes to bat for NRCC: "I"m reaching out to you today regarding a very serious issue," the Ohio governor and former Republican presidential candidate, writes in a fundraising pitch emailed Monday by the National Republican Congressional Committee."Nancy Pelosi has her sights set on becoming Speaker again," Kasich adds. "It seemed nearly impossible just a few months ago, but now our Republican majority in Congress is in danger."
The email is the latest example of the how Kasich is trying to carve out a role for himself in a Trump-led GOP. The governor hopes to be helpful when it comes to broader party-building interests but isn"t likely to have much, if any, supportive role in the Trump campaign.
More signals that Kasich won"t speak at the convention: As we"ve noted before, a prominent role for Kasich at the convention is likely contingent on him endorsing Trump.
"We have not asked for a speaking slot and have zero expectations of receiving one," John Weaver, who served as chief strategist on Kasich"s presidential campaign, tells the Guardian"s Ben Jacobs. "Governor Kasich will have a full schedule of events around the convention aimed at helping Republicans keep control of Congress and winning down ballot. Of course, this will be on top of his responsibilities as governor in regard to security issues in Cleveland."
Dump Trump descends on Cleveland: "Anti-Donald Trump forces will be sending an "advance team" to Cleveland this week to begin preparing their effort to strip the Republican presidential nomination from Donald Trump," Politico"s Kyle Cheney reports.
"In a Sunday night conference call with allies around the country, the leaders of the effort described a slow-building organization that would begin setting up a command center outside the arena where the Republican National Convention will be held next month."
A convention supergroup: CQ Roll Call is joining with cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer for joint coverage during the GOP convention. "We"ll have an army of reporters on the ground that week, and Roll Call"s expertise and access to newsmakers will be a huge boost to the coverage we plan," Chris Quinn, our vice president of content, said in Monday"s announcement.
Texas abortion case has Ohio implications: "The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected a law in Texas that would have shuttered many of the state"s abortion clinics by restricting their operations," cleveland.com"s Eaton writes. "The decision is likely to thwart restrictions imposed by Ohio and other states that clinic operators insist are meant to stop abortions. ...
"Ohio Right to Life PresidentMike Gonidakis said his organization is reviewing the Supreme Court"s decision. ... He believes the state"s law might be safe because it imposes the same standards on all ambulatory care facilities, whether they perform abortions or laser eye surgery."
Monday"s decision, Eaton writes, "has emboldened activists who will use it to challenge restrictions that threaten to close several abortion clinics in Ohio."
