XXL Freshman 2016- Kodak Black Pitch G Herbo explains why he should be selected as a member of the 2016 XXL freshman class.
G Herbo is up for the 10th and final spot of XXL"s 2016 freshman class. Last year, HNHH arguedthat Herbo should be in the 2015 freshman class. Somehow, Herbo is still facing long odds to make this year"s cover.
With XXL letting the citizens of earth vote on the 10th spot, G Herbo delivers his pitch for his inclusion in this year"s class.
"It"s all there," he explains. "The fans there, the bars there."
Herbo is the type of guy who likes to let his music do the talking,so he keeps it short and sweet: "Right now, I"m at a point where I only want to get better. And it"s gonna be, like, scary crazy... s**t getting colossal."
Apple reimagines messages app, with rich links, emojis and bubble effects
Though the feature wasnt mentioned in Apples WWDC 2016 keynote, Im most excited about the introduction of the Apple File System, or APFS. The preliminary version of the developer documentation is online now, and it looks like the new file system introduces a whole boat-load of solid featuresincluding a few out of the ZFS playbook.
APFS looks to be a major update over Apples old and creaky HFS+ file system, which has been around in one form or another for decades. It hasbeen the subject of expansions and additions over the years, but HFS+ never approached the extensibility and flexibility of current next-generation file systems. Rather than continuing to bolt stuff onto the old code, we now (finally!) get a new file system that has some truly compelling features.
First, the caveats
But before we get into the good stuff, lets real quick talk about the bad stuffor, at least, the "this is still in development so heres what doesnt quite work" stuff. Apples documentation notes that because APFS is still a developer preview, you cannot use an APFS volume as a startup disk. You also cant use it as a Time Machine volume or part of a Fusion Drive configuration, nor can you use File Vault encryption on it.
Perhaps most importantly, the file system currently is case-sensitive, and this cannot be disabled. HFS+ breaks with most Unix-y file systems in that it can be configured to not use case sensitivity; in fact, running OS Xahem, macOS, sorrywith case-sensitive HFS+ can lead to its own problems. But, for now, if you want to use APFS, youre going to do so on a non-startup volume, and youre going to have to deal with case sensitivity.
In light of the current limitations, Apple recommends you test APFS on an external volume that doesnt contain anything important. You can get started with the hdiutil utilitypresuming you"ve got access to Sierra.
The first fun bits
APFS also adds a copy-on-write metadata scheme
The documentation lists a number of characteristics of the file system. To start, it shows that APFS is based around inodes, with 64-bit inode numbering support. It also massively increases the granularity of object time-stamping: APFS supports nanosecond time stamp granularity rather than the 1-second time stamp granularity in HFS+. Nanosecond timestamps are important in a modern file system because they help with atomicityin a file system that keeps a record of writes, having nanosecond-level granularity is important in tracking the order of operations.
APFS also adds a copy-on-write metadata scheme that Apple calls "Crash Protection," which aims to ensure that file system commits and writes to the file system journal stay in sync even if something happens during the writelike if the system loses power.
There are a few other neat things in the first section of documentation, including support for sparse files, TRIM support (presumably for Apple and non-Apple SSDs alike by default), Extensible Block Allocation support for lazily initializing data structures as needed on a huge disk instead of having to set everything up at once, and, interestingly, mandatory use of SMB for sharing APFS volumes over a network. AFP is not supported for APFS sharing. And, lest we forget our roots, the documentation notes that APFS has built-in support for extended object attributes, which should help if you still have some need of resource forks.
The more exciting stuff
The new file system offers an improvement over Apples previous full-disk encryption File Vault application. For one, APFS supports encryption natively instead of through File Vault. There are three modes of operation: no encryption, single-key encryption, and multi-key encryption with per-key files and another key for sensitive metadata. Both AES-XTS and AES-CBC cypher variants are supported, "depending on hardware." This lets you apply an adaptable amount of encryption depending on what your security needs might befrom "I dont care" to "I dont want anyone swiping the disk out of my computer" up to "NO ONE ELSE MUST KNOW MY SECRETS."
NO ONE ELSE MUST KNOW MY SECRETS
Write coalescing finally makes an appearance on Apple hardware. Long a staple of enterprise disk arrays, this feature gives the file system some latitude in committing data to disk, taking a bunch of short potentially unrelated writes and combining them together into one longer write that more efficiently uses the physical storage beneath it.
A feature called "fast directory sizing" is purported to give macOS a fast way to query the size of a directory and all its child objects, rather than having to wait while a bunch of stat calls complete.
The most exciting stuff
Snapshots and clones both are going to be available in APFS. Snapshots let you throw off a read-only instance of a file system at any given point in time; as the file systems state diverges away from the snapshot, the changed blocks are saved as part of the snapshot. This is similar in concept to Microsofts shadow copies, and its an incredibly handy feature. There are obviously huge implications here in how Time Machine worksa true file-system set of snapshots could totally replace the kludgy and aging mechanism of hard links that Time Machine builds and maintains.
Snapshots and clones both are going to be available
Clones differ from snapshots in that clones are writable instead of read-only. According to the documentation, APFS can create file or directory clonesand like a proper next-generation file system, it does so instantly, rather than having to wait for data to be copied. A cloned file or directory stores the changes made between it and the original objects, giving you a writable, editable, point-in-time copy of a file or a directory. As the documentation points out, this is an easy way to create document revisions or do versioning of anything you might want to track.
Also interesting is the concept of "space sharing," where multiple volumes can be created out of the same chunk of underlying physical space. This sounds on first glance a lot like enterprise-style thin provisioning, where you can do things like create four 1TB volumes on a single 1TB disk, and each volume grows as space is added to it. You can add physical storage to keep up with the volumes growth without having to resize the logical volume.
First chance to see
Devs at WWDC are getting their hands on APFS today, and the first formal session walking through the technology is tomorrow, so were expecting lots more news to bubble up over the next couple of days. Were also keenly interested in getting our hands on the tech and putting it through its pacesthatll have to wait until the developer preview of macOS Sierra becomes available to us, but well start diving in as soon as we can.

Many of the most passionate reactions to the deadly attack have come from gay social media users.
In a flurry of posts, gay people around the world have shared pictures of themselves posing, kissing and holding their partners" hands in a celebration of their sexuality, using the hashtag #GaysBreakTheInternet.
The worst mass shooting in U.S. history, which left at least 49 people dead and more than 50 wounded, has been described as both a terror attack and a hate crime by leaders and experts.
In a riposte to the attack, Twitter user @norlicious of Sweden posted pictures of herself kissing other women, saying "because our rights aren"t a debate issue."
Instagram user epyloniana from Germany posted a picture of herself and another woman wearing pink tank tops with "legalize gay" across them.
Others used #LoveWins and #OrlandoStrong to show their support.
"Cancer of radicalization"
World and religious leaders were also quick to stand in solidarity with the United States, as the nation reeled from its worst terror attack since 9/11.
Omar Mateen, the U.S.-born shooter, pledged allegiance to ISIS in a 911 call during the attack.
Queen Elizabeth II, who celebrated her 90th birthday this weekend, led tributes in the UK, saying on Twitter that both she and Prince Philip were shocked by the events in Orlando.
And British Prime Minister David Cameron said he was "horrified" by reports of the shooting.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in a statement to President Obama that "we are connected in deep mourning."
"But even in the face of such cruelty, we will stick to our values and beliefs ... We will not give up our freedom, our lives rooted in humanity and charity and our enjoyment of the community. Our open societies are stronger than any rabid hatred," Merkel said.
Pakistan"s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that shooting didn"t "represent the will of a vast majority of Muslims."
"It is just another representation of a cancer of radicalization -- one that we promise to fight every day of our lives," he said in a statement.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, India"s Narendra Modi, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Singapore President Tony Tan were among the leaders that expressed their condolences and offered sympathy to the victim"s families.
Days after a terror attack in Tel Aviv, Mayor Ron Huldai tweeted an image showing City Hall lit up in rainbow colors and the colors of the U.S. flag. In Seattle, a rainbow flag flew at half-staff on the Space Needle, while the One World Trade Center in New York was among a number of U.S. buildings lit up in rainbow colors.
In France, members of the lesbian and gay community gathered at an art center in downtown Paris on Sunday, placing burning candles in the shape of a heart and draping themselves in rainbow flags.
"We are here to express our solidarity with the victims and their families, with all the victims who were injured," one woman who attended the vigil told CNN affiliate BFM TV.
"We have a lot of solidarity as well as a lot of sadness."
The attack took place during Pride month -- "a time of joy and celebration" for the gay and lesbian community -- said the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex association (ILGA), which advocates for equal rights and represents 1,100 groups worldwide.
"It is hard not to fear that this was a targeted attack against a community, and this is a dreadful reminder of the price far too many LGBTIQ persons, all around the world, have to pay simply for being who they are," the ILGA said in a statement.
In China, 51 LGBT groups issued a collective statement expressing "condolences, solidarity and love." Blued, China"s largest gay dating app, changed its loading screen to honor the Orlando shooting victims.
Gay and lesbian groups planned a candlelight vigil for Monday evening in Seoul, the capital of South Korea.
Pope"s "horror"
In unusually vivid language, the Vatican said Sunday that Pope Francis reacted in "horror" and "condemnation" after learning of the nightclub massacre.
"We all hope that ways may be found, as soon as possible, to effectively identify and contrast the causes of such terrible and absurd violence which so deeply upsets the desire for peace of the American people and of the whole of humanity," the Holy See Press Office said in a statement.
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull offered condolences to the bereaved and sought to reassure his own countrymen and women, saying that Australian intelligence and security agencies "had the tools" they need to keep people safe.
"We are rigorous in our efforts to ensure that guns are not illegally imported into Australia and that our strong gun control laws are strictly enforced," Turnbull said.
From Sydney, Australia, Twitter user @sethdarby posted a picture of a vigil from Taylor Square, the heart of the city"s gay community and nightlife.
The Sydney Harbor Bridge was lit up in rainbow colors, while Australians in Melbourne also attended vigils.
"I just feel incredibly sad about what has happened," one woman told CNN affiliate Sky News Australia in Melbourne. "I was meant to be going into work and I thought, nah, I need to come here and spend time with my community."

Sotomayor, 34, was a caring, energetic man known for wearing a silly top hat on cruises, David Sotomayor, who identified himself as the victim"s cousin, told the Associated Press.
David Sotomayor, who lives in Chicago, told the AP on Sunday that Edward worked for a company that held gay cruises and often traveled to promote the company"s events.
The two discovered they were related after meeting at Orlando"s annual Gay Days festival around a decade ago. They texted regularly and kept in touch, last seeing each other earlier this year at a filming of the television reality show "RuPaul"s Drag Race," David Sotomayor said.
"You never think that"s going to be the last time you speak to him," David Sotomayor told the AP. "It"s just heartbreaking to know it just can happen anytime."
Juan Ramon Guerrero, 22, had told his cousin Robert Guerrero, that he was gay about two years ago but he was worried about how the rest of his family would react so he did not tell them until just before the beginning of this year. And when he did? "They were very accepting," said Guerrero, 19. "As long as he was happy, they were OK with it."
On Sunday morning, after learning that so many people had died at the nightclub that his cousin had gone to once in a while, Guerrero started to become concerned. Later in the day, his fears were realized when the family learned that Guerrero was identified as one of the victims.
Robert Guerrero said his cousin worked as a telemarketer and in recent months he started attending college at the University of Central Florida. Guerrero said his cousin didn"t quite know what he wanted to study, but he was happy to be in school. And he was happy in a relationship with a person his relatives came to regard as a member of the family, Guerrero said.
"He was always this amazing person (and) he was like a big brother to me," he said of his cousin. "He was never the type to go out to parties, would rather stay home and care for his niece and nephew."

"I wish I had that (video) to remember him forever," she told the newspaper.
A friend, Hazel Ramirez, told the Washington Post she also saw a video from Almodovar on Snapchat and learned Sunday afternoon what had happened.
Ramirez described Almodovar as "kind, but sassy," and someone who was comfortable with his own sexual identity.
"He was so proud of who he was," she told the Post. "He would do his makeup better than anyone else. It was so easy to be myself with him.
Kimberly Morris had taken a job as a bouncer at Pulse after moving to Orlando some months ago.
"She was so excited," ex-girlfriend Starr Shelton told the Sentinel. "She"d just started working there and told me how she was thrilled to get more involved in the LGBT community there," Shelton said.
"I can"t think of a time when I did not see a smile on her face," friend Narvell Benning told the Sentinel. "I"m so thankful of the good memories I have of her. This is just unreal."

Watch RJ Balaji"s speech as "People of Chennai" win CNN-News 18"s Indian of the Year award
In the gruelling time of the Chennai floods, it was the people of Chennai who took matters into their hands and helped each other.
For this, the People of Chennai won the CNN News 18"s Indian of the Year award in the category of Public Service.
RJ Balaji"s, one of the celebrities who crowdsourced food, supplies and groceries for many affected by the floods across Chennai, received the award on the city"s behalf.
"There were more volunteers than victims on the road. This time, all of us in Chennai fel like true Indians. We were wearing masks of caste, creed, race, religion, money and authority. This rain washed away these masks. Chennai is more than Masala Dosa, Rajnikanth and lungi dance," RJ Balaji said in his speech thanking the people of Chennai.
Along with him, Chinmayi Sripaada, who proactively lent a hand during floods and was part of the Chennai Micro operation, received the award along with him.
Balaji"s Chennai Micro initiative continued to help with rehabilitation efforts in and around Chennai and thanked several of their volunteers who helped in the operation.
