MSNBC"s Joy Reid on Gay Nightclub Massacre: "Core Issue" Is "How Easy It Is To Get A Gun"

Joe On Donald Trump: What Century Is He From? | Morning Joe | MSNBC

MSNBC host Joy Ann Reid reacts to the Orlando gay nightclub massacre on Sunday"s Meet the Press, calling the "core issue" not "international terror," but "how easy it is to get a gun."

"We have mass casualty shootings that are affecting children, teachers, people in church," Reid said. "Whether it"s a hate crime or whether it"s related to something -- to international terrorism, we"re not getting to the core issue, which is how easy it is to get a gun."

Reid did acknowledge that there happens to be law-abiding gun owners, "but we are not talking about that issue."

"Florida happens to have the largest gun-owning population in the country and some of the most lax laws as to how you can get your hands on even an assault rifle," Reid said. "So if you mean to do harm, you know, we are talking about a state with 1.4 million, law abiding, obviously, gun owners, but we are not talking about that issue."

"Right now the only debate that is taking place in the state of Florida is the Supreme Court weighing whether to allow complete open carry so that people can actually visibly show firearms on the streets of Florida. So we"re having a debate that is so disconnected from the real fears, the fears of people like me, who are afraid to have their kids out in the world not just because of criminals, but also because of a deranged person," Reid said.

"Regular people don"t think of the way that we"re talking about it. Regular people see violence. They see dead people in Orlando and it could have been anybody that they knew," moderator Chuck Todd commented.

LIVE: Colombia vs Costa Rica

Colombia vs Costa Rica 2-3 All Goals & Highlights 12/06/2016

Colombia coach Jose Pekerman might regret his extensive changes as a 3-2 loss to Costa Rica cost his side top spot in Group A.

Colombia coach Jose Pekerman might be wondering if 10 changes was a few too many after his team went down 3-2 against Costa Rica in their final Copa America Centenario group game.

Pekerman and Co. looked to be in control of the group after seeing off the United States and Paraguay ahead of their final group game against Costa Rica, but their complacency was punished as they finished behind the hosts in disappointing circumstances, setting up a potential quarterfinal clash with Brazil in the process.

Celso Borges and Johan Venegas were in fine form as the eliminated Costa Ricans finished their tournament in style.

Venegas scored after just two minutes when he was picked out brilliantly by Borges before dispatching a 20-yard curler that left Colombia goalkeeper Robinson Zapata clutching at thin air, before fullback Frank Fabra produced a moment of individual brilliance to level the scoring with a fine solo goal.

Fabra went from hero to villain when he turned a Venegas cross into his own net with 10 minutes to play in the first half, before Borges added another with a tidy goal after 58 minutes, although a Marlos Moreno effort made for a nervous finish.

With qualification already secured, Pekerman rested his stars as he made 10 changes to the starting lineup that beat Paraguay with midfielder Sebastian Perez the only player remaining, but he came to rue such extensive changes.

Costa Rica, having already been eliminated following the United States" 1-0 win over the Paraguayans earlier on Saturday, had Arsenal"s Joel Campbell named among the substitutes with Sporting CP"s Bryan Ruiz chosen to lead the line.

Venegas opened the scoring with a superb strike from 20 yards after brilliantly bringing down a cross-field pass from Borges, beating the offside trap and bearing down on goal.

His progress was hindered by the Colombia defense, which forced Venegas to put his foot on the ball and turn out, but that did not stop him from scoring as he knocked the ball a yard ahead of him and dispatched a brilliant finish from distance that found the far top corner.

However, their advantage did not last long as Fabra embarked on a mazy run starting on the left wing and finishing with a trail of Costa Rica defenders in his wake before slotting the ball under Patrick Pemberton.

He followed the sublime with the calamitous when his disastrous own goal put Costa Rica back into the lead when he bundled Venegas" cross into his own net at the far post.

Pekerman turned to James Rodriguez at halftime as he hoped to wrestle back control of the game and avoid a defeat that could yet see them facing off against Brazil in the quarterfinals.

But his gamble did not pay off as Borges made it 3-1 just before the hour-mark when he finished off a lovely overlapping run and cross from substitute Bryan Oviedo.

Substitute Juan Cuadrado set up Moreno for Colombia"s second as they chased a crucial equalizer but they could not find it as Pekerman was left to rue his selection.

Russia score late to earn draw with England, Gareth Bale helps Wales win

Gareth Bale Perfection ● Skills ● Dribbling ● Goals 2015 - 2016 HD
Russia scored deep into stoppage time to salvage a draw against England.

Russia scored in stoppage time to stun England and earn a 1-1 draw in their European Championship opener in Group B at Marseille"s Stade Velodrome.

Vasili Berezutski"s goal cancelled out Eric Dier"s second-half free kick and ruined England"s hopes of finally opening the competition with a victory.

England, with Wayne Rooney in midfield, adopted a positive approach and had a number of scoring chances in the first half, but they could not beat Russia keeper Igor Akinfeev.

Russia showed signs of improvement in the second half, and Gary Cahill needed to make a fine challenge after a pass across goal from Aleksandr Kokorin early on.

England were in control, though, and Wayne Rooney nearly gave them the lead on 71 minutes when Danny Rose"s low cross deflected into his path inside the area, but Akinfeev was able to divert his shot onto the crossbar. Adam Lallana struck the post with the follow-up but was flagged offside.

They did not have to wait long, though. England were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area for a foul on Dele Alli, and Dier unexpectedly stepped up to smash the ball past Akinfeev.

But out of nothing, Russia forced a corner and Georgy Schennikov sent in a cross that Berezutski headed over stranded goalkeeper Joe Hart in the 92nd minute to salvage a point.

Roberto Martinez feels Wales will be beaming with confidence ahead of their second match with England. The FC crew look at the team dynamic that the Welsh team have established and how it steered them to a 2-1 win over Slovakia. Gareth Bale opened his account with an early free kick as Wales beat Slovakia 2-1 in an entertaining Group B encounter at the Stade de Bordeaux.

Slovakia had a golden opportunity to make the breakthrough inside three minutes when Marek Hamsik danced through the defence but was denied by Ben Davies.

On 10 minutes, Bale gave them the breakthrough, firing home a swerving free kick, with Slovakia keeper Matus Kozacik caught out after initially misjudging its direction.

Slovakia drew level on 61 minutes when Robert Mak outpaced Aaron Ramsey down the right and set up substitute Ondrej Duda, whose first involvement was to slot home.

But Wales had the final word, with Ramsey beating Martin Skrtel as he bore down on goal and Hal Robson-Kanu scuffing home when the ball ran loose.

Fabian Schar"s header proved enough for Switzerland to claim a 1-0 victory over Albania in their European Championship opener. Fabian Schar"s header proved enough for Switzerland to claim a 1-0 victory over Albania in their European Championship opener.

Switzerland beat 10-man Albania 1-0 in Lens in theirGroup Aopener to move level on points with hosts France.

Switzerland took the lead inside five minutes when Fabian Schar headed home after Albania goalkeeper Etrit Berisha"s misjudged attempt to gather a Xherdan Shaqiri corner.

Albania"s hopes suffered a setback seven minutes before the break when captain Lorik Cana picked up a second yellow card when he clearly handled the ball to prevent Haris Seferovic going through on goal.

They still had chances to level, most notably when Shkelzen Gashi was sent clean through in the 87th minute, but Switzerland held on for victory.

Fans panned latest Stephen Curry"s shoes

Top 10 Under Armour Curry 2 Shoes Of 2016

American basketball player Stephen Curry presented the latest version of the Curry 2 Low shoes. Fans immediately panned the Chef Curry shoe edition with cruel jokes.

The basketball star has his shoe line with the brand Under Armour. The company released on Thursday its latest new shoe, and it has been sharply criticized by fans.

By social media, fans have compared the all-white shoes as the perfect accessory for dads or grandpas.

Even more, some social media users have written on Twitter that the shoes seem to be a nurse sneaker.

The Chef Currys were not well receiving because of their dull and simple appearance. Fans were used to stunning shoes and this time they consider the new version should not be released.

In 2013, Under Armour signed the Golden State Warriors superstar after Nike rejected Currys design of a shoe with a verse from the Bible on it. Under Armour offered a contract worth close to $4 million per year and the first Curry signature, the Curry Two Shoes, was released in February 2015.

Currys shoe line has been so successful that it has carved out an impressive and significant spot in the shoe industry. It seems like Under Armour amazing sales are the result of Currys exploits on the playground and the quick fame the superstar has reached.

However, this time, the Chef Curry version has not been well received among Currys fans because people argue that the shoes are no-flair and the all-white appearance only does not match on what is expected to project the essence of such a remarkable player. Even if the Curry Two-line has positioned Under Armour among the most valuable shoe brand in the market, it seems that this time the story wont be repeated.

How USA Soccer Won Copa America"s "Battle Of Philadelphia" Vs. Paraguay

USA vs. Bolivia | International Friendly Highlights

The United States mens national soccer team battled to victory over Paraguay on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Judging by the U.S. players performances, its safe to say theyd be willing to fight from the stadium, to Broad Street, To Market Square, through North Philadelphia and up or down the Eastern seaboard in order to achieve the success they so thoroughly deserve.

Clint Dempseys 27th-minute goal put the U.S. ahead in the score-line, but the hosts determination and bravery in holding on, following DeAndre Yedlins 48th-minute dismissal, provided sports fans near and far a soccer memory they should cherish For years to come.

The delirium isnt the same as when Landon Donovan scored late against Algeria in the 2010 FIFA World Cup or John Brooks headed a goal past Ghana in the 2014 World Cup. Those late goals spawned impossible dreams of conquering the world.

This reality-based accomplishment gave the United States the satisfaction that only can come from doing a job well and to completion. In that respect, the win over Paraguay surpasses those others.

The United States hit its first Copa America 2016 target by progressing from Group A into the quarterfinals. The U.S. will face a still to-be-determined opponent in the last eight, most likely Brazil. If Team USA wins that game, history will remember its Copa America Centenario campaign as an unqualified and resounding success.

Heres how the United States stood up to Paraguays bullies and won hearts, minds and the Battle of Philadelphia.

Ye Old gunslinger

Theres no need to lament Jozy Altidores absence when Clint Dempsey, 33, is playing so well. The veteran forward finished his one chance with aplomb, taking his Copa America 2016 record to impressive new heights.

Demspsey now has 51 career goals in 127 games for his country. We said it before and will say it again: as Dempsey goes, so goes Team USA.

New-age heroes

Klinsmanns seismic decisions to start goalkeeper Brad Guzon and center back John Brooks sparked days long debates ahead of the tournament, but their performances against Paraguay vindicated those big calls when it mattered most.

Brooks, 23, was an imperial force at the heart of the U.S. defense. His 11th-minute block put Team USA on an emotional cloud, which it rode to the final whistle.

That tackle only was the highlight in what was the finest of Brooks 24 career games for the United States.

In those instances in which Paraguay unlocked be well organized United States defense, Guzan saved the day, as Paraguays Miguel Almiron and Dario Lezcano can attest.

Brooks 82nd-minute block and Guzans double-save will live long in the annals of USA Soccer.

Discipline makes things easier

Yedlins first yellow card was unnecessary. His second, which came less than 60 seconds after the first, was simply ludicrous.

Team USA managed the first half with little trouble, but Yedlins dismissal put the U.S. on its back foot for the entire second period, forcing the hosts to grind for every ball and blade of grass for half the game.

Paraguay undoubtedly wouldve had more difficulty dominating if the United States had all 11 players on the field.

Team USAs physical, tactical, and psychological qualities prevented Paraguay from scoring, despite its personnel advantage.

USA-Paraguay was one of the roughest games of Copa America 2016. Referee Julio Bascunan showed nine yellow cards and even suffered an injury himself when he collided with US midfielder Jermaine Jones.

Costly victory

Team USA won the Battle of Philadelphia but paid a heavy price in doing so. Yedlin will be suspended for the quarterfinal, forcing Klinsmann to change the back four, which shined against Costa Rica and in the first half against Paraguay.

Dempsey should be fresh for the quarterfinal, having played just 50 minutes against Paraguay, but his teammates physical exertions could drain their performances in the next game.

Team USAs powers of recovery now face the ultimate test, and their physical trainers must work wonders to bring the players back to their peak levels in just a few days time.
