Warriors" Stephen Curry not worried about NBA Finals funk

Warriors vs Cavaliers: Game 3 NBA Finals - 06.08.16 Full Highlights

CLEVELAND The whistle already had blown and the play was over, but Stephen Curry tried to shoot a layup and LeBron James stuffed it.

None of it counted, but that play in Game 3 was symbolic of how the NBA Finals have gone for Curry: Nothing is coming easy.

Most popular sports stories

The best shooter in the NBA hasnt been hitting his shots through the first three games of the Finals. The two-time MVP has as many fouls as three-pointers (10) and almost as many turnovers (15) as field goals (17).

StoryLove works out, could be ready for Game 4

But before anyone puts out an APB on his whereabouts, Curry has no doubt that h**l show up in this series. Were up 2-1 right now and the story is still unfolding, he said before the Warriors practiced Thursday afternoon.

Its been a strange series for the Warriors. Their All-Star backcourt of Curry and Klay Thompson hasnt played a good game, but even though the Splash Brothers have gone splat, Golden State can take a 3-1 series lead Friday night.

Curry is 17-for-39 with 48 points total and Thompson is 14-for-38 with 36 points. Neither has scored 20 in a game.

The law of averages says Curry and Thompson are due for a big night, and that doesnt bode well for the Cavaliers. They lost the first two games by 48 points even though Curry and Thompson totaled only 55.

The past two seasons, Curry has been the NBAs most unstoppable, most clutch and most popular player. But suddenly he is facing criticism for his disappearing act. He had a series-high 19 points Wednesday night, but the Cavaliers won, 120-90, so he basically was invisible again.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said none of it affects Curry. One of the great things with Steph is hes so grounded, Kerr said. He understands how this process works. If you are in the limelight and youre the one doing the commercials and getting trophies, then youre also in the crosshairs.

Were on the biggest stage and hes had a couple of tough games, so the criticism will come and h**l handle it fine.

Look no further than the Western Conference finals. After the Warriors fell behind 3-1, Curry and Thompson lifted their games to bring the Warriors back. Curry averaged 32.7 points the last three games and Thompson averaged 29.7.

Thats Steph, Kerr said. Thats who he is. He always responds. Hes got a huge heart, competitive as h**l, and extremely talented. I know how he will respond. h**l play well. He always does.

The Cavs are being physical with Curry, running him off the three-point line and making sure defenders are connected to him. But Curry also is missing open looks, which is as uncharacteristic as the foul trouble hes faced.

Curry said he let the foul trouble take him out of the last two games and that he wasnt as aggressive as I needed to be in Game 3.

It wont be that in Game 4, he said. Ive got to stay true to who I am and allow that to carry you through the good times and the Game 3s.

Kerr seemed to get irritated by the many questions about Curry and Thompson and whether he is considering a lineup change. The Warriors won a record 73 regular-season games; Kerr believes they can win two more.

They win a game, now its lineup changes and Oh my G*d, Steph Curry cant play well and whats Klay going to do? Kerr said. All this stuff about, Oh my G*d, what are we going to do? All we have to do is take stock. Were up 2-1. Were in pretty good shape. We havent played that well. Lets play better.

"The Conjuring 2": Bigger, Longer, and Unholy

THE CONJURING 2!

The most telling aspect of The Conjuring 2, the gonzo sequel to the 2013 horror smash, is that it"s 133 minutes long. A running time like that is a rarityThe Exorcist, at 132 minutes, may be the strongest analoguebecause the genre draws intensity from concision, and its dread-soaked mysteries are not so easily sustained over time. But director James Wan, who made the seventh The Fast and the Furious entry between the two Conjuring movies, has figured out how to adapt the genre to the blockbuster age, when studios are batting for a home run every time they step to the plate. This is no mere haunted house movie. This is a tour through a giant, spring-loaded funhouse.

For evidence of Wan"s horror maximalism, look no further than the opening sequence, which finds real-life ghostbusters Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) Warren holding a seance at the famed Dutch Colonial in Amityville before moving onto something bigger. Consider that for a moment: Scary happenings at the Amityville housesecond only in horror iconography to the Bates house in Psycho, the subject of 14 movies (and counting) and numerous works of fiction, nonfiction, and semi-fictionare a mere throat-clearing for The Conjuring 2. Wan"s last feature had cars parachuting from a plane onto a mountain pass. This one has a room full of crosses that get twisted upside-down like a doorknob to the gates of h**l. Like any director of a blockbuster sequel, he takes the mandate to top himself seriously.

The Conjuring 2 mostly justifies the bloat, because Wan"s style is wonderfully energized and nimble, with a camera that roves quickly, sometimes madly, toward danger and a restless escalation of stakes. He also has legitimately compelling lead characters in Ed and Lorraine, whose profession and marriage the movies take seriously, even if the real world received them more skeptically. After a vision at Amityville prophecies her husband"s death and brings a frightening new demon into her conscience, Lorraine insists they take a step back from active casework and act strictly as consultants instead. It doesn"t happen, of course, but the depth of feeling between them gives the supernatural threat more weight.

Seven years after Amityville, Ed and Lorraine are summoned to a modest old home in the London borough of Enfield, where single mother Peggy Hodgson (Frances O"Conner) and her four children are besieged by a poltergeist. Peggy"s youngest daughter Janet (Madison Wolfe) has been haunted and occasionally possessed by an exceedingly cranky old spirit who wants the Hodgsons out of his home. The Warrens are called in by the Church in an unofficial capacity, but as their skepticism falls away, their mission to help the spiritually afflicted draws them into the fight.

As with The Conjuring and his two Insidious movies, Wan lifts from a generous smorgasbord of influences, combining the urban possession of The Exorcist and the multi-dimensional child abduction of Poltergeist with Spielbergian moments of humor and wonder. Never much for goreeven Saw, his extreme-horror breakthrough, is more about pain than plasmaWan instead amplifies the scares with old-fashioned effects and a hyper-aggressive soundtrack. There are at least five or six full-body shivers in The Conjuring 2, and most of them come through jump-scares done right, with each ghoulish surprise punctuated by blasts of unholy guttural noise.

There"s nothing particularly distinctive about The Conjuring 2, which is more about repurposing old effects than adding new ones. (Its generic qualities extend to the music cues. When the action shifts to London, Wan cuts a montage to The Clash"s "London Calling," which was recorded two years after the movie takes place.) What it lacks in originality, however, it makes up in moxie. Wan turns the Hodgson residence into whirring gizmo of demonic effectsa self-propelled fire truck, a zoetrope come to life, a leather recliner of the damnedthat never stops moving. It"s like the Hodgsons have taken up residence inside a shark"s mouth and the beast is relentlessly chewing. Wan brings the monster vividly to life, and in its scaled-up hokum, The Conjuring 2 charts a future for studio horror.

NBA Finals Game 3: Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson struggle as Cavaliers top Warriors 120-90

Klay Thompson Full Highlights 2016 WCF Game 6 at Thunder - 41 Pts, UNREAL 11 Threes, NBA RECORD!

CLEVELAND: The Splash Brothers looked more like the Clank Brothers Wednesday night inside Quicken Loans Arena.

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors had a chance to take a commanding three games to none lead in the 2016 NBA Finals, but poor shooting, too many turnovers and strong performances from LeBron James and Kyrie Irving allowed the Cleveland Cavaliers to earn a 120-90 victory before a sellout crowd of 20,562.

Both Curry and Thompson played 31 minutes, but neither shot the ball well for the second game in the best of the best of seven series.

Those guys can get it going in bunches, Irving said. You saw Steph in the third quarter, as well as Klay in the second quarter, when those guys just have the ability to get downhill, as well as spray out to the three-point line [they are effective].

Curry scored 19 points, but made six of the Warriors 18 turnovers and had just three assists and one rebound. Curry made 6-of-13 shots from the field (3-of-9 from 3-point range) and 4-of-4 shots from the free throw line.

Those numbers pail in comparison to the unanimous MVPs 30.1 points, 6.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.14 steals in 34.2 minutes per game during the regular season. Curry made 50.4 percent from the field and 45.4 percent from 3-point range during the regular season.

It was all me, Curry said. They were playing aggressive defense and they came out with a big punch. I didnt do anything about it or play my game, and for me to do what I need to do to help my team, I have to play a hundred times better than that, especially in the first quarter, to kind of control the game, and I didnt do it.

Curry had just two points in the first half Wednesday and Thompson was scoreless in the second half as the Cavaliers snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Warriors which included the final three games of last years NBA Finals, two regular season games this season and the opening two games of this years NBA Finals.

Its not the way we wanted the night to go, myself included, but [I am] glad we obviously took care of home court so that were still in a good position, said Curry, who led the Warriors to an NBA record 73 regular season wins. Obviously its a series, and they did what theyre supposed to do, took care of their home court. But we have a great opportunity on Friday to keep control of the series, and thats going to be a challenge.

Thompson averaged 22.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 33.3 minutes per game during the regular season, and made 47.0 percent of his shots from the field and 42.5 percent of his shots from 3-point range. He didnt come close to those numbers Wednesday, totaling 10 points, two rebounds, one assist and two turnovers. He made 4-of-13 shots from the field (1-of-7 3-pointers) and 1-of-3 shots from the free throw line.

Were all to blame, Thompson said. We win together and we lose together. Obviously the starting unit has to be much better. We lost the game in that first quarter [33-16].

The Cavaliers opened the game on a 9-0 run with four points coming from Irving, two points from James and a 3-pointer from Richard Jefferson. The Warriors never held a lead as the home teams edge extended to 89-69 following three quarters.

Obviously they just punched us right in the mouth right in the beginning, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. Were turning the ball over like crazy. Soft, we were extremely soft to start the game, and then they set the tone with their intensity.

James made several jump shots and had a couple of highlight real slam dunks, including a reverse two-hand jam and a right-handed throwdown following an alley-oop pass from Irving, en route to leading the Cavs with 32 points, 11 rebounds and eight rebounds in 41 minutes. James made 14-of-26 field goal attempts and 3-of-5 free throws.

We finally got back to our game tonight, and it started with the floor general to my left [Irving], James said. The sharpshooter to my right [Smith] got it going, and it was just good basketball. It was a good flow, and everyone felt like they were a part of tonights win. So it was just a collective team win.

Irving finished with 30 points, eight assists and four rebounds on a night in which he played 37 minutes and shot 12-of-25 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. J.R. Smith (20 points, four rebounds), Tristan Thompson (14 points, 13 rebounds) and Jefferson (nine points, eight rebounds) were also key contributors for the Cavs.

We knew our effort wasnt where it needed to be in our two games at Golden State, Cavs reserve James Jones said. I knew coming back home we just wanted to make sure that we competed and had a good showing. . . . One thing that we have learned as a team over the course of the postseason is you take every game individually. Things can change. Guys get hot, guys go on a run, guys get into a groove and before you know it you find yourself feeling good about yourself.

To get Game 1 here at home, Game 3, is huge. Now we have to come back in Game 4 and match that intensity because we know there is a good team over there.

The Warriors won Game 1 104-89 and Game 2 110-77, but Curry and Thompson averaged just 14.5 and 13.0 points, respectively, as Shaun Livingston, Draymond Green, Harrison Barnes, Andre Iguodala and Leandro Barbosa led the way.

Green said Wednesday he noticed the Cavs played like a team with a sense of desperation and the Warriors played like everything was peaches and cream.

Cavs coach Tyronn Lue like his teams grit and determination.

I thought we were very physical defensively, and I thought we were aggressive offensively, attacking the basket, getting out in transition, running the floor, Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said.

We talked about effort for the last two days, just being aggressive, playing hard, the physicality, and we brought that. When we play that way, were tough to beat. And we know were not satisfied with one game. We know Friday we have to play even better.

Antonio Brown honors Big Ben on National Best Friends Day

National Bestfriends Day 2016 ++ read desc xD

Antonio Brown has a lot of friends, but only one of them is his quarterback.

On Wednesday, National Best Friends Day, Brown paid homage to Ben Roethlisberger on Twitter, reinforcing the strong bond that exists between the Steelers" All-Pro receiver and its future Hall of Fame quarterback.

#NationalBestFriendsDay pic.twitter.com/yh4H9TKEM9

Antonio Brown (@AntonioBrown84) June 8, 2016

While Big Ben has had close relationships with many of his receivers over the years, his rapport with Brown is special. On the field, there"s no better QB-WR duo than Roethlisberger and Brown, who have spearheaded Pittsburgh"s high octane offense over the past several years.

After breaking into the team"s starting lineup in 2011, Brown made the Pro Bowl that season while earning team MVP honors. In 2013, he began an unprecedented run of greatness, breaking the team"s single season records for catches and receiving yards, something he would repeat in 2014 and "15.

Brown"s ascension has also led to a career resurgence for Roethlisberger, who has been named to the Pro Bowl each of the past two seasons while leading the NFL in average passing yards per game last season. And now, with Peyton Manning"s retirement and Tom Brady"s upcoming suspension, Big Ben might finally get his due as one of the best quarterbacks of his era this season.

While their chemistryon the field is unparalleled, it also appears that Brown and Roethlisberger have a close bond that extends beyond the field, as the Steelers" quarterback and receiver hope to parley their strong bond into a Super Bowl run in 2016.
