The ninth month of the Muslim Lunar calendar is known as Ramadan, which is expected to begin on 5 or 6 June depending on the moon sighting. Muslims around the world will observe the day by fasting from sunrise to sunset. The observance of the holy month is one of the five pillars of Islam. The month-long fast is to commemorate the first Quranic revelation to Muhammad.

The beginning of the month is decided through moon sighting and continues for 29 or 30 days depending on the moon sighting for Eid-al-Fitr. During the fasting period, Muslims are prohibited from eating, drinking, smoking and having sexual relations during daylight hours. Devotees are also expected to increase donations to the poor and other charities.
When Ramadan 2016 begins Muslims in the Arabic, Asian and European countries are expected to observe the first day of the holy month on 7 June. Meanwhile, The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has appealed to Muslims around the Kingdom to report the sighting of the Crescent.

Temecula Fire TEMECULA FIRE: Blaze, traffic taking their toll on weekend business
Garage Brewing Co. in Temecula had about half its usual sales Saturday because of the traffic jam on I-15 related to the Temecula Fire, manager Julian Lopez said Sunday, June 5.

TEMECULA - Nearby businesses were hoping to recover Sunday from a lackluster day Saturday when customers -- and employees -- had difficulty getting places because of the traffic backup.
At Garage Brewing Co., which serves fast-fired pizza, manager Julian Lopez said the restaurant did about half its normal sales on Saturday, which is normally its busiest day.
"Even our employees were an hour to two hours late," Lopez said. "All we can do is send people home and clean."
Lopez sent a message to employees Sunday through the restaurant"s online schedule to leave home early for work. He didn"t believe that Sunday"s I-15 nightmare was as bad as Saturday"s.
Customers began trickling in about 11:30 a.m.

The fire had been 30 percent contained as of 9:30 a.m.
The Nos. 3 and 4 lanes of the southbound I-15 remained closed from just south of Temecula Parkway to just south of Rainbow Valley Boulevard, causing a serious traffic backup in the approximate 2.5 distance for a second day in a row as crews mop up hot spots from flames that burned right to the highway Saturday.
Officials were hopeful of reopening the No. 3 lane soon, but there was no timetable for that at mid-day Sunday.
The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Sunday.

LOS ANGELES --- Kevin Casey"s father-in-law, boxing great and civil-rights leader Muhammad Ali, died Friday after a decades-long battle with Parkinson"s disease but the UFC middleweight will still fight on Saturday. UFC officials told FOX Sports that Casey is ready to fight at the L.A. Forum on the UFC 199 undercard.
Casey is set to face Elvis Mutapcic on the UFC Fight Pass prelims. Casey is married to Hana Ali, a daughter of Ali.
On Friday night Casey posted a photo of he and his father-in-law. Earlier this year he shared warm memories of his first family Thanksgiving with Ali.

Casey clearly had a great deal of respect and love for his wife"s father, so it can"t be easy for him to fight the day after Ali"s passing. Still, as Ali himself knew so well, the life of a professional fighter can be cruel.
Casey"s wife Hana Ali also posted a statement Saturday morning. "Our hearts are literally hurting," she wrote.
"But we are so happy daddy is free, now ... We all tried to stay strong and whispered in his ear, "You can go now. We will be okay. We love you. Thank you. You can go back to G*d now.""
A memorial is being planned for Wednesday in Ali"s hometown of Louisville, KY.

It has been a busy day for fire crews in Southern California. In addition to the Old Fire, the 2-acre Valley Circle Firebroke out and was extinguished in West Hills. Crews also battled the Temecula Fire, which snarled traffic on the southbound 15 freeway.
