The Ministry of Health has begun to prepare for the possibility of babies being born with microcephaly arising from mothers being infected with the Zika virus (ZIKV) during pregnancy.
Microcephaly is a birth defect in which a baby is born with a small head.
These babes can also develop mental conditions that can impair their development.
Director of Emergency, Disaster Management and Special Services in the Ministry, Dr Melody Ennis, says the health ministry, as part of its response to ZIKV, is turning its attention to looking at measures to treat children with microcephaly in the event the country records such a cases.
Ennis says the response programme would also look at providing psycho-social support to families with a baby affected by the condition.

She was speaking today at a press conference and prayer breakfast for the launch of Disaster Preparedness Month 2016.
There have been reports of a suspected case of a pregnant woman being diagnosed with the Zika virus, but the health ministry has declined to comment on the matter.
The ministry has since called a press conference for tomorrow on ZIKV to update the country.
Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, told our news centre that the number of ZIKV cases has increased to 15.

The team will also get an infusion of players on break from their European teams, including Jesus Tecatito Corona, Miguel Layun, Hector Herrera, Raul Jimenez, and Diego Reyes. Osorio said each of those players will be on the field between 45 and 60 minutes in Wednesdays match.

British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking has helped to unlock some of the deepest mysteries of the universe, but admits that he cant understand how a demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator is leading the Republican party going into the U.S. general election.
Speaking in an interview Monday morning, Hawking expressed his bafflement that Donald Trump was as popular as he is.

Hawking also appealed to British voters to vote to keep the United Kingdom inside the European Union in a June 23 referendum. He said remaining within the EU provided essential support for British scientific research as well as its economy and security.
He said: Gone are the days we could stand on our own against the world. We need to be part of a larger group of nations, both for our security and our trade.

Tonight marks the debut of Maya And Marty, NBCs latest attempt to drag the rotting corpse of the televised variety show back onto this mortal coil for some singing-and-shambling fun. Starring Saturday Night Live alums Maya Rudolph and Martin Short, the series is a spiritual sequel to Rudolphs variety special from 2014, as well as the musical sketch revue the duo hosted together during SNLs big 40th anniversary show last year.
To promote the premiere, Third Man Records has released the instrumental theme song for the series, penned by company founder Jack White and featuring a number of performers signed to the label. Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of the blood testing company Theranos, was a rare breed, something more rare than even the Silicon Valley unicorn she created: a self-made female billionaire. Forbes, the business publication that has made a franchise of cataloging the rich, had put Ms. Holmes on the top of its list last year of Americas richest self-made women.
The magazines new estimated tally of her wealth? It went from $4.5 billion to $0.
Ms. Holmess unusual status, as a young woman who created and controlled a company seemingly valued at about $9 billion, captivated the media: She graced countless magazine covers, including T: The New York Times Style Magazine. Theranos, she said, would revolutionize the lab industry by offering blood tests from a single finger p***k at a fraction of the cost of traditional testing.
But over the last year, Theranos became the subject of a series of hard-hitting Wall Street Journal articles and intense regulatory scrutiny from an array of federal agencies.
The media is now mesmerized by Ms. Holmess fall. Truth be told, the half of the $9 billion valuation ascribed to Theranos and previously listed as Ms. Holmess wealth was nothing more than an estimate based on investors best guesses. Taking into account all the controversy and uncertainty surrounding the value of the companys top-secret technology, Forbes is now guessing that the company is worth more like $800 million. While Ms. Holmes still owns at least half of the company, much of that value would be tied up with outside investors.
But, as an article in Forbes on Wednesday about Ms. Holmes is quick to acknowledge, no one really knows. Theranos has not let anyone really kick the tires. Ms. Holmes, 32, who has repeatedly vowed to reveal all, is now expected to present some data to the public in August at the annual meeting of the AACC, formerly the American Association for Clinical Chemistry. Even then, it may be impossible to come up with a better estimate of what her company is worth.
Not surprisingly, Theranos refused to shed any light on the matter, except to dispute Forbess analysis.
