Madison Academy 31, Glencoe 28: Nathan Geis' 34-yard field sends Mustangs ...

GLENCOE, Alabama -- On the day the trailer for the new Star Wars movie was released, Madison Academy produced a sequel worthy of a Hollywood ending.

Nathan Geis drilled a 34-yard field goal with 16 seconds remaining to send the Mustangs to a fourth straight Class 3A championship game appearance with a 31-28 victory over Glencoe.

Top-ranked and two-time defending state champ Madison Academy (13-1) appeared to be in trouble late in the game. Third-ranked Glencoe (13-1) tied the score at 28-all with 6:44 to play when Dylan Stone hit Andrew Willis for a 13-yard score on fourth down.

RELATED: GEIS FINALLY GETS TO BE THE HERO

The Mustangs fumbled the ensuing kickoff at their own 27, but Glencoe couldn't capitalize, losing seven yards before ultimately turning the ball over on downs.

Madison Academy used a nine-play march to move just inside the Yellow Jacket red zone and put the game on Geis' foot. The drive was highlighted by a Malik Miller 20-yard run to the Glencoe 40 in which he dropped a defender near the line of scrimmage with a textbook stiff arm.

Stone led Glencoe, running for 98 yards and two TDs (58 yards, 1 yard) on 15 carries, and completing 7 of 10 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.Play of the game: Glencoe went for it on fourth-and-15 from the Madison Academy 34-yard line with 4:04 left in the game. The Mustangs held Stone to an eight-yard completion to force a turnover on downs, setting up the drive that resulted in Geis' game-winner.

By the numbers: Madison Academy's Kerryon Johnson ran for a game-high 173 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown, on 19 carries. The Mustangs did not attempt a pass in the second half. Besides the final score, Madison Academy's only lead was 28-21 on Miller's highlight-reel, 28-yard run in which he used back-to-back spin moves to elude defenders with 17 seconds left in the third quarter. Glencoe's Thomas Ozmint ran for 124 yards and a 17-yard score on 32 attempts, but was held to just 20 yards in the second half. Madison Academy has won 35 straight Class 3A games, including 14 straight postseason games. Mustang coach Eric Cohu earned his 75th win in six seasons leading the Mustangs. He's 75-10 overall.

Game ball: Miller overcame a fumble on the opening possession to run for 160 yards and two touchdowns (51 and 28 yards) on 16 carries. He also caught a 35-yard score from Blake Coward.

Coachspeak: "The fake punt was a surprise. I did not call it," Cohu said of Johnson's 25-yard run to the Glencoe 31 that set up a touchdown in the third quarter to tie the score 21-21. "The center got confused on the call. That's why Kerryon dropped the ball. Nobody was expecting that. I'd like to take credit for it, but that was a play that Kerryon capitalized on and showed how good of a player he is."

They said it: "That was huge. We put pressure on our offense line," Johnson said of the winning drive. "We said we've got to go down the field, score and go to Auburn. They did their jobs and blocked their tails off."

"We knew what we had to do," Miller said of the winning drive. "We didn't want to score too fast and give them time to come back. We got in a running formation, got five yards a play and ran some clock off."

Next week: Madison Academy faces No. 2 Dale County (14-0) for the 3A title at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn.

East Bay luxury home sales soar 46% in October

The East Bay's luxury housing market remained red hot in October, with sales soaring more than 46% from a year ago and the median sale price jumping more than 13%.

The figures, reported by report by Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, are based on Multiple Listing Service data of all homes sold for more than $1 million in October in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

A total of 301 luxury homes changed hands in October, up 46.1% from October 2013. Million-dollar sales were also up sharply from the 264 transactions recorded in September 2014.

Once again, the upper end of the luxury market was especially strong last month with 24 sales over $2 million, double the number a year ago and also up from the 18 multi-million-dollar sales in September.

Meanwhile, the median sale price of a luxury home in October rose 13.4% from a year ago to $1,394,918. It was also up from September's median sale price of $1,261,000.

"The luxury housing market here in the East Bay is showing no signs of slowing down as we move through the fall home-buying season," said Mike James, president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. "Demand for well-appointed, fairly priced high-end homes continues to outstrip supply."

"There are just aren't enough properties to meet the strong demand, including many buyers who have crossed the Bay Bridge in search of more affordable prices compared to San Francisco and Silicon Valley," he added.

Some key findings from November's Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage luxury report:

The most expensive sale in the East Bay in October was a five-bedroom, six-bath approximately 5,500 square foot home in Danville that sold for $3,395,000;

Danville also boasted the most luxury sales with 35, followed by Fremont with 33, Oakland and Berkeley with 28, Lafayette with 23, San Ramon with 22, Orinda with 20 and Pleasanton with 18.

Homes sold in an average of 29.8 days on the market, up from 27 days a year ago and 29.2 days the previous month.

Sellers received an average of 106% of their asking price, up from 105.3% a year ago and 104% the previous month.

The East Bay Luxury Housing Market Report is a monthly report by Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, a specialist in high-end real estate sales.

Sherman's two INTs help Seahawks shut down 49ers

Updated NOV 28, 2014 1:35a ET

SANTA CLARA, Calif. Richard Sherman offered one final challenge to San Francisco: "I told their sideline if they threw it my way I'd end the game."

He did exactly that just like last time.

Sherman provided the moment of the game against the 49ers once again, a mere 10 months after his touchdown-saving deflection in the NFC Championship Game that sent the Seattle Seahawks to the Super Bowl.

Sherman set up the only touchdown with another key defensive play in this heated rivalry, then made a second interception with the 49ers driving late, and the Seahawks ended a five-game losing streak on San Francisco's home field with a 19-3 win Thursday night.

"The second one was pretty entertaining. I was laughing the whole time," Sherman said. "They threw it. I said, 'Way to be, way to be.'"

The brash cornerback offered plenty without opening his mouth, too: Blowing kisses to the crowd, then putting a finger to his lips to make the hush sign before waving goodbye.

Steven Hauschka kicked four field goals and the Seahawks' stout defense held Colin Kaepernick and Michael Crabtree in check as Seattle (8-4) overcame 14 penalties for 105 yards, including an offensive pass interference that negated a touchdown.

Russell Wilson passed for 236 yards and thoroughly outplayed Kaepernick, who had one of his worst performances for the 49ers (7-5) in a game with high stakes for the teams' playoff hopes. And they play again in 17 days.

"My team's all together, we are buddies. It's a hard thing to do, winning on their turf," Wilson said. "The NFC is not easy to win against. We are excited about that opportunity."

After his second pick, Sherman looked at those fans still remaining in half-empty stadium on a Thanksgiving night and waved. The Seahawks won by the identical score they beat first-place Arizona five days earlier.

Kaepernick was 16 for 29 for 121 yards and the 49ers were outgained 379-164.

Sherman and Crabtree were at the center of the decisive play in January's NFC title game, when Sherman deflected a pass headed his way in the end zone and Malcolm Smith intercepted it with less than a minute remaining to seal the Seahawks' 23-17 victory. Sherman later called Crabtree "mediocre."

San Francisco's offense might have earned that distinction after its latest dud snapped the Niners' three-game winning streak.

When the word mediocre came up, Sherman said that distinction went to "their fans" for vulgar name-calling throughout the game.

"You never have to resort to name-calling," said Sherman, who said a bottle was thrown as the Seahawks exited.

Asked about Crabtree on Thursday, Sherman smiled and quipped: "History? What history?"

"He said he was throwing to the open man. He didn't care who was out there," Sherman said about Kaepernick. "I was the open man."

In the waning moments with thousands of red seats already empty, 49ers CEO Jed York posted on Twitter: "Thank you (hashtag)49ersfaithful for coming out strong tonight. This performance wasn't acceptable. I apologize for that."

The 49ers were held to three points or fewer for the first time since a 29-3 Week 2 loss at Seattle last year.

"We only had three points. We have to start early and we have to play," Crabtree said. "That's all we have to talk about."

Seattle sure looked comfortable in its first trip to new $1.3 billion Levi's Stadium. It helped that the Seahawks quieted a relatively subdued home crowd.

Sherman got things started when he intercepted Kaepernick's deep third-down pass on the right sideline in the first quarter to help set up Wilson's 13-yard touchdown pass to Robert Turbin. A wide-open Turbin easily took the ball down the left sideline on a pretty catch-and-run before beating cornerback Chris Culliver into the end zone.

Hauschka kicked field goals of 21, 36, 35 and 46 yards.

Phil Dawson provided San Francisco's lone points on a 40-yard field goal late in the third.

Sherman had the fourth two-interception game of his career with his 22nd and 23rd picks since 2011, most in the NFL. It was 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh who turned him into a defensive back at Stanford.

Sherman nearly had another late in the first half, when Seattle outgained San Francisco 202-71. The 49ers were held to 23 yards rushing and shut out in the first half for the first time this season.

"We've got to reboot, come back and win them all," Harbaugh said.

In a lighthearted moment before kickoff, Harbaugh's black hat blew off during the national anthem and landed on the lowest white stripe of a flag that covered the entire field. A San Francisco staffer quickly retrieved the cap just in time as the flag was being rolled up.

NOTES

Wilson had a 118.8 passer rating to Kaepernick's 36.7. ... Crabtree hurt his left knee 56 seconds into the game after landing awkwardly on his left side following a 5-yard reception on which he was tackled by S Kam Chancellor. ... 49ers DT Ray McDonald injured a finger.

Who won 'Dancing With the Stars' season 19?

Alfonso Rubiero with Witney Carson took home the mirror ball trophy. ABC

When the Dancing With the Stars cast was announced three months ago, one name stood out: Alfonso Ribeiro.

He had the nostalgia factor courtesy of his goofy Carlton character on Fresh Prince of Bel Air who even had his own signature dance dubbed (of course) The Carlton.

If anyone was the favorite to win, it was him.

And guess what? He did win. Despite back issues, he soldered forth and finished strong.

Among the guys this year, there was no peer.

Take Our Poll

But he faced some formidable women. Four quickly showed their prowess: Back to the Future actress Lea Thompson, Duck Dynasty reality star Sadie Robertson, YouTube sensation Bethany Mota and Pretty Little Liars actress Janel Parrish.

Lea was flushed out prematurely before Tommy Chong two weeks ago, finishing sixth. On Monday, the charming Bethany was eliminated. Sexy, intense Janel tonight was cut, landing third. Ultimately and expectedly, Alfonso and Sadie were left standing. I figured they were going to be the final two weeks ago.

Arguably, Janel was a better dancer than Sadie but the teenager showed more warmth. Plus, Sadie revealed extraordinary raw talent, building from zero dance (or acting) experience. Her dance partner Mark Ballas was able to showcase her sweetness without over sexualizing her, which might have turned off her base (and her parents.).

Alfonso was an interesting balance of humbleness and dogged determination, especially when he was clearly in pain. His squat body type also yelped underdog, belying his athleticism.

Ultimately, the judges kept showering perfect scores on the dancers so who won ultimately came down to who had a bigger fan base. And that was Alfonso.

DANCING WITH THE STARS Episode 1911A With less than 24 hours to prepare, the three remaining couples fused two contrasting dance styles that theyve performed this season into a new routine they performed for judges points, on the Season Finale of Dancing with the Stars, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on ABC. Creed Lead Singer Scott Stapp Reveals in Facebook Video That He's Broke ...

Creed Lead Singer Scott Stapp Reveals in Facebook Video That Hes Broke, Living in HolidayInn

Scott Stapp, the lead singer of the band Creed, revealed he was living in a Holiday Inn and penniless in a nearly 16-minute Facebook video post early Wednesday morning.

Stapp, who earned worldwide fame in the late 90s and early 2000s with songs like With Arms Wide Open and Higher, alleged he was under some kind of vicious attack because the funds in his bank accounts were stolen by people he knows or frozen by the IRS.

In the video, he detailed how he had to sleep in his truck for a couple of weeks and, at one point, didnt have enough money to eat for two days.

I cant sit back anymore and allow this to continue and allow my children to be embarrassed and humiliated by the action of others, he said.

At the end, he urged fans who can offer their legal services to contact him so he can get back on track.

According to TMZ, a representative for the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office conducted a wellness check last week with Stapp and his wife and found no cause for concern. The Grammy winner has battled with alcohol and drug addiction in the past, but assures viewers he has not relapsed and has rededicated my life to Christ.
